AGENDA REVIEW SESSION APRIL 13.2011 19 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Agenda Review Session at 8:02 a.m. on Wednesday, April <br />13, 2011 with President Juanita Dempsey and Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce J. <br />BonDurant, Laura Vasquez and Eddie Miller present. Also present were Board Attorney Thomas <br />Bodnar, Police Chief Darryl Bovkins, and Fire Chief Howard Buchanon. <br />The meeting was held in Classroom No. 1, Central Fire Station, 1222 South Michigan Street, <br />South Bend, Indiana. <br />Board members discussed the following items from the agenda: <br />- Addition to the Agenda <br />Mr. Bodnar noted the addition written on the agenda of an Indemnification Agreement <br />between the Fire Department, Panzica Architectural Group, and State of Tndiana <br />Homeland Security District 2 is no longer needed. He informed the Board that he found <br />out yesterday that Panziea has sold the property that the Fire Department was asking to <br />use for training purposes. <br />- Swearing In of Probationary Firefighters <br />Mr. Bodnar suggested the Board begin their regular meeting on the apparatus floor, lake a <br />recess after the swearing in of the firefighters, and reconvene back in Classroom No. 1 to <br />finish the meeting so the ceremony for the swearing in could continue for the public <br />without delay. Fire Chief Buchanon stated he would like to do the Police Department <br />agenda items first, and then move to the Fire Department agenda items and the swearing <br />in of the firefighters, all on the apparatus floor. The Board agreed to keep the entire <br />regular meeting on the apparatus floor. <br />- Promotions to Patrolman 1' Class <br />Police Chief Darryl Boykins stated these Patrolmen would not be present and there would <br />not be a badge pinning ceremony, they already have their badges. <br />- Employee of the Month - January 2011 <br />Police Chief Darryl Boykins stated Patrolman Terrance Santa was chosen for Employee <br />of the Month due to his apprehension of a burglary suspect on the southwest side of town. <br />Chief Boykins noted that less than one hour after the burglary, Patrolman Santa tracked <br />footprints from the crime scene, in the mud. a block away. Upon finding muddy shoes <br />outside. the Police Department surrounded the house. Once inside, the stolen items were <br />found and recovered.
