<br />ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING JANUARY 2, 2006 <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, met in <br />the Council Chambers of the County-City Building on Monday, January 2, 2006, at 12:00 <br />(noon). The meeting was called to order by Councilmember Charlotte D. Pfeifer and the <br />Invocation and Pledge to the Flag were given. <br />ROLL CALL <br />st <br />Present: Derek D. White At-Large <br />Councilmember Dieter noted that he is currently on duty with the South Bend Police <br />Department, however, he is taking his lunch break to be present at this organizational <br />meeting. <br />ELECTION OF COUNCIL PRESIDENT FOR 2006 <br />Councilmember White nominated Councilmember Timothy A. Rouse for the office of <br />President. Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion which carried by acclamation. <br />ELECTION OF COUNCIL VICE-PRESIDENT FOR 2006 <br />Councilmember White nominated Councilmember Roland Kelly for the office of Vice- <br />President. Councilmember Pfeifer seconded the motion which carried by acclamation. <br />ELECTION OF CHAIRPERSON – COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE FOR 2006 <br />Councilmember Pfeifer nominated Councilmember Karen L. White for the office of <br />Chairperson – Committee of the Whole. Councilmember Kelly seconded the motion <br />which carried by acclamation. <br />RE-APPOINTMENT OF COUNCIL ATTORNEY – 2006 <br />Councilmember White made a motion to reappoint Ms. Kathleen Cekanski-Farrand as the <br />Council Attorney for 2006. Councilmember Varner seconded the motion which carried <br />by acclamation. <br />COMMENTS FROM COUNCILMEMBER’S <br />Councilmember Kelly stated that he was pleased to retain Ms. Cekanski-Farrand as <br />Council Attorney for 2006. He noted that she has served the Council very well in the <br />past and looks forward to working with her. <br />Councilmember Kuspa stated that Ms. Cekanski-Farrand has assisted the Council and <br />always keeps them advised on current issues that are before the Council. He stated that <br />he is pleased to retain Ms. Cekanski-Farrand as Council Attorney for 2006. <br />Councilmember White thanked Councilmember Pfeifer for her leadership as Council <br />President this past year. <br />Councilmember Pfeifer thanked the Councilmember’s for their cooperation this past year. <br />She stated that she believes that they worked together respectfully on some tough issues. <br />Council President Rouse thanked the Councilmember’s on electing him to serve as their <br />President for 2006.
