Regular meeting of the Beard of Safety Monday November 25,1929. <br />Meeting held in the Board of Safety office at 4 p.m. all members <br />present except Mr. Engeldrum. <br />Minutes of last meeting .approved following their reading and <br />signed by Mr. Reeder. Motion prevailed that a special meeting be <br />held at 10 a.m., November 27 to open bids for Fire Hose. Clerk <br />instructed to issue the call. <br />Requisitions for Fire Department were approved and payroll bill <br />signed. <br />Electrical Department, <br />Requisitions Nos. 001558 —9 and 60 were approved <br />Report received. <br />Payroll affidavits signed. <br />Weights and Measures.. <br />Bills for payroll and use of car signed. <br />Report placed on filed <br />Police Department. <br />Requisitions signed and payroll bills approved. <br />Applications of L. R. Richardson and Joseph Miler approved and <br />ordered placed on file. <br />Letters ordered sent to Taxi Companies that petitions for stands <br />will be considered at next regular meeting. B lanks ordered prepared <br />to complt with new Taxi ordinance. <br />Mrs. Evans report ordered placed on file. <br />Patrolman Carl Wesolek sent the following communication to <br />Chief Hatt and members of the board. " I hereby resign as -a member <br />of the South Bend Police Department to become effective this date." <br />The note signed by Carl Wesolek was dated Nove 23, 1929. Charges <br />were filed by Chief ofmPolice James J. Hatt as of November 21, 1929 <br />charging Officer Wesolek with intoxication. Charges a copy of which <br />were delivered to Pffieer Wesolek were ordered placed on file. On <br />motion of Dr. Johnston the resignition of Officer Wesolek was <br />gdaegted and ordered placed on file. <br />The following charges against Sergt. Lewis Mielke were then <br />read by Mr. Reeder and the trial ordered to proceed. <br />South Bend, Ind. <br />November 15th., 1929 <br />To t'e Honorable Board of Public Safety: <br />Gentlemen: <br />I herewith submitt t,'e following charges against Louis <br />H. 1!�eilke, Sergt. of Police. <br />That said Officer 11..eilke on the 6th. day of November,1929 <br />was guilty of conduct unbecoming an officer in that on the riorning <br />of said date, he while under the influence of intoxicating liquor <br />improperly interfered with the duties of L.B.Stacy a special Officer <br />dup�y a >pointed, and acting for the Robertson Bros. Company of this - <br />City; that said Officer L-- eilke; in the vicinity of the Robertson <br />:giros ;tore accosted said Special Officer Stacy, and without provocatiol <br />accused hit of impersonating an officer, indulged in uncalled for <br />and abusei.ve language, tore his badge from his person, and took him i <br />i <br />to Po'_ice Hleadquarters w rere t =_e said Stacy was released by the <br />officer in charge.
