1 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Freeh present: <br />.The.Fire Chief requested the privilege of making purchase of <br />several items of equipment for use in the Fire Department and the <br />Board approved such purchase if material can be received and bill <br />allowed and paid before the close of the books on January 1st. <br />The Board, upon recommendation of the Chief of the Fire Depart - <br />ment, accepted the.pumper purchased from the Peter Pirsch & Sons <br />Company of Kenosha, Wisconsin, delivered within the last ten days and <br />payment of the first installment amounting to 43,750.00 was approved <br />and ordered paid, balance of payment to be made at the rate of $3,750.00 <br />each December first with interest at six percent. <br />As requested by the Board, Edward Niesgodski, City Fireman, and <br />Harry Hinkle, City Fireman, appeared before the Board to discuss their <br />personal obligations to merchants in the City. After admonishing these <br />firemen to pay their legitimate debts, they were excused. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />Matters pertaining to the operation of the Electrical Department <br />were. discussed. <br />It was reported that the traffic signal controlling traffic <br />coming from the south on Carroll Street at Lincoln Way East had been <br />removed and that traff ic stop lights had been properly placed. <br />Mr. Qualls submitted,to the Board a,.map of the City, showing the <br />location of every street light and pointing out that under the present <br />contract some of the lights would need to be turned out during the <br />' <br />coming year to keep within the limits of the contract. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: <br />Matters pertaining to the Police Department were discussed and <br />the Chief particularly called the attention of the Board to the <br />situation in regard to the present coal strike and that he felt the <br />time had come when some action should be taken to begin negotiations <br />andtreularly for arbitration between the contending oodward g carrimed oved that the <br />W <br />,Mr. Anderson, seconded by Mr. representative of <br />Board ask the Mayor to call in a both sides to see <br />if some arbitration program cannot be effected. <br />MEETING December <br />16, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board <br />of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />December 16, 1935 at 8:45 A. <br />M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of previous meeting <br />were read and approved. <br />Claims in the amount of <br />$4,920.39 were approved and ordered <br />paid, <br />also payrolls for the month <br />of December for all departments amounting <br />to $39,030.22.
