MEETING December 9, 1935 Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday, December 9, 1935, at 8:45 A. M. All members were present. Minutesaof previous meeting were read and approved. Helmen addressed a communication to the Board ` in - reference to indebtedness to him of Edward Niesgodski, City Fireman, which has been standing since March 1933 and requested relief. The. Board decided to have the fireman report at the next meeting of the Board to explain this situation. ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present Mr. quails reported that -the traffic light at Lincoln Way East and Carroll Street would be removed immediately after the Police Department • placed a stop sign at Carroll Street which would be done within the next few days. A communication was received from Jasper N. Barnes, President of the River Park Civic Association, requesting that consideration be given the matter of fire alarm boxes in the territory between Eddy Street on the west, Logan Street on the east, Jefferson Street on the north and the St. Joseph River on the south, The matter was.,,.-.referr ed to Mr. walls for investigation and recommendations POLICE DEPARTMENT - Assistant Chief Diedrich present: The Chief was placed in possession of a number of copies of Ord- inance in reference to licensing of 'Night Clubs and was given instruc- tions to have the Police Department investigate all places where refreshments are served and where music is furnished for dancing and to report at an early meeting of the Board. The Assistant Chief was instructed to follow closely the question of gambling in the City and to bring in all offenders. A communication from the Police Pension Fund, dated December 7th, was read to the Board, bringing to its attention the present status of Leo Berner. In view of the fact that the Mayor has ordered all police to be placed on the Pension Fund, and the appointment of Leo Berner being somewhat questionable, this matter was referred to.the City Attorney for investigation and recommendation. A communication was received from the Y.M.C.A_ offering physical training and education to the police officers in return for City water to be provided to the Y.M.C.A. The matter was referred to the Chief of Police to investigate and make report at the next meeting. `1 0
