MEETING December 9, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />December 9, 1935, at 8:45 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutesaof previous meeting were read and approved. <br />Requisitions numbers 08755 to 48758 were approved. Erickson Co.,,Inc. 27.95 <br />The Gamewell Co. 83.05 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT Chief Freeh present: <br />Dr. Harry W. Helmen addressed a communication to the Board ` in - <br />reference to indebtedness to him of Edward Niesgodski, City Fireman, <br />which has been standing since March 1933 and requested relief. The. <br />Board decided to have the fireman report at the next meeting of the <br />Board to explain this situation. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present <br />Mr. quails reported that -the traffic light at Lincoln Way East and <br />Carroll Street would be removed immediately after the Police Department <br />• placed a stop sign at Carroll Street which would be done within the next <br />few days. <br />A communication was received from Jasper N. Barnes, President of <br />the River Park Civic Association, requesting that consideration be <br />given the matter of fire alarm boxes in the territory between Eddy Street <br />on the west, Logan Street on the east, Jefferson Street on the north and <br />the St. Joseph River on the south, The matter was.,,.-.referr ed to Mr. walls <br />for investigation and recommendations <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Assistant Chief Diedrich present: <br />The Chief was placed in possession of a number of copies of Ord- <br />inance in reference to licensing of 'Night Clubs and was given instruc- <br />tions to have the Police Department investigate all places where <br />refreshments are served and where music is furnished for dancing and to <br />report at an early meeting of the Board. <br />The Assistant Chief was instructed to follow closely the question <br />of gambling in the City and to bring in all offenders. <br />A communication from the Police Pension Fund, dated December 7th, <br />was read to the Board, bringing to its attention the present status of <br />Leo Berner. In view of the fact that the Mayor has ordered all police <br />to be placed on the Pension Fund, and the appointment of Leo Berner <br />being somewhat questionable, this matter was referred to.the City <br />Attorney for investigation and recommendation. <br />A communication was received from the Y.M.C.A_ offering physical <br />training and education to the police officers in return for City water <br />to be provided to the Y.M.C.A. The matter was referred to the Chief <br />of Police to investigate and make report at the next meeting. <br />`1 <br />0 <br />
