w. <br />TMTING November 18, 1935 <br />Regular meeting of the Board ofPublic Safety was held Monday, <br />November 18, 1935 at 8:30 A. M. All members were present. <br />Minutes of meeting of November llth were read and 'approved. <br />Requisitions bearing numbers 08719 to 08724, inclusive, were <br />approved, also claims from the following suppliers in the amount of <br />$723.38. <br />New York Central R. Public Service 1.00 <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT - Chief Freeh present: <br />A communication from the Chief of the Fire Department, William <br />Freeh, was read from which it developed that in his conversation <br />with Mr. R. C. Eby of Roseland he suggested to Mr. Eby that the Fire <br />Department would be willing to respond to calls from that district, <br />subject to favorable'action of the Board of Public Safety, for an <br />annual remuneration of 4200.00. It was suggested that the Chemical <br />Department respond and, if not available, an eighty gallon water <br />capacity Pumper would make the run which would insure people of that <br />section prompt service. This was favorably acted upon by the Board <br />and the Secretary communicated with Mr. Eby, informing him of such <br />action. <br />The Fire Chief brought up the question of vacancies in the ranks <br />of the Fire Department and submitted changes which he would suggest <br />accompanied by approval of the Mayor. These were as follows: - <br />Lieutenant George Geltz to be promoted to the rank of Captain <br />January 1, 1936. <br />Ladderman Arthur Howard to be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant <br />effective January 1, 1936. <br />The above Officers to act in the advanced capacity beginning at <br />once but -1\0 receive no change in pay until after the end of the year. <br />The following new appointments were made, subject to physical <br />examination and appointment,'to, ) duty by the Fire Chief: <br />Roland Miller to begin duty December 1, 1935. <br />Guy Gilligan to begin duty December 1, 1935. <br />Ray McCallum to begin duty January 1, 1936. <br />The above appointments were all confirmed by the Board.__ <br />Application for.position on the Fire Department was received <br />from Ray McCallum and ordered placed on file. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT - Mr. Qualls present: <br />Mr. Qualls submitted a report of frequent complaints regarding <br />hazard at Lincoln Way East, Jefferson and Carroll Streets, stating <br />that the traffic signals at this point are so arranged that it is <br />very confusing to automobile drivers and he suggested that either <br />another traffic signal be placed on Lincoln Way East at Carroll <br />Street or'make Carroll Street a stop street and remove the traffic <br />signal. This matter was referred to members of the Board Anderson <br />and Woodward to investigate with Mr. Qualls and make suggestions at <br />a subsequent meeting. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: . <br />Continuation certificate in favor of Sergeant Claude Keller in <br />the Maryland Casualty Company was approved. <br />i <br />I I 11 .- <br />
