2.03' <br />The matter of putting a new roof on the Alarm Station was brought up. <br />e Secretary reported that he had not received,quotati"ons"from Roofers <br />cepting the John Beyrer & Sons Roofing Company. He was.instructed to get <br />touch again with these Roofers to see that their bids are brought in at <br />ce. <br />OLIOE DEPARTMENT - Chief Lane present: <br />As the Chief was.making a trip to Fort Wayne on this day with the Mayor, <br />atters pertaining to his department were not fully discussed. <br />A petition from residents in the 900 block on Portage Avenue,addressed <br />a o the Chief of Police was presented to the Board, requesting parking of <br />automobiles to be restricted in this block. The matter was referred to <br />r. Miller of the Engineering Department and the Chicago Motor Club, who are <br />ow making a traffic survey. <br />Dr. Pauszek was called to meet with the Board to discuss the matter of <br />duties of the Police Surgeon. He reported that he had consulted with previous <br />Police Surgeons and that the practice had been in times past f or.the Police <br />Surgeon to call on police officers and firemen who are reported sick and to <br />administer first aid in cases of accident,and that the sick officer was to <br />p y his doctor's expenses while off duty, and that the City was responsible <br />f r surgical and medical treatment in of accident. <br />Communication was received by the Board, addressed to the Mayor, by <br />Ethel Carmichael, asking for safety signs and lights at Bendix Park. This <br />matter was referred to the Park Board. <br />The Secretary reported having received quotations from six garage oper- <br />ators with reference to towing wrecked, stolen or abandoned cars from points <br />w thin the City and the general trend of prices is less than that charged by <br />the Stewart's Garage a short time ago. The prevailing price taken from these <br />quotations is $1.00 per car from any point in the City unless rear of the car <br />must be hoisted - in which event, charges will be 41.50. The Secretary has <br />i structed Stewart's Garage to comply with these prices in the future and to <br />r imburse the owner of the car which he towed the week of June 17th and made <br />a charge of 42.50. <br />Official bond in favor of Michael Greszcyk in the United States Fidelity &. <br />Guaranty Company was approved. Official bond of John Stasinski and that of <br />Robert Watt in the Maryland Casualty Company were approved. The Secretary <br />reported that only two officers are now without official bonds - these being <br />R x Risher and Harold Whitmer, who have continually promised to bring their <br />b nds in and have not done so. The Secretary was instructed to write them <br />a d insist upon bonds coming in at once. <br />IGHTS AND MEASURES <br />A"letter was received from Charles J. Burns stating that the - Weights and <br />Measures Department was in urgent need of a number of supplies for the oper- <br />ation of the department and also some method of conveying weights with which <br />t perform the duties of office. The matter was referred to the City Attorney <br />t investigate if compliance with his request would, in any way, affect the <br />c se against Mr. Burns now pending in the Courts. <br />The meeting adjourned at 10:45 A.
