<br />made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the
<br />petition was referred to the Engineering Department, Department
<br />of Community Development and the Area Plan Commission for prelininary
<br />review and recommendation.
<br />APPROVE REQUEST OF WSBT TO PARK VANS ON RIVER BEND PLAZA
<br />A request of WSBT was received for permission to park two vans on
<br />River Bend Plaza to facilitate the broadcast.of the Rod Johnson
<br />Show on Tuesday, March 10, 1981, at 9:.00 a.m., at Robertsons.'s
<br />Department Store was received from Mikki Dobski, River Bend Plaza
<br />Coordinator. Mr. Leszczynski stated that he had no objection to
<br />allowing WSBT to temporarily park its vans on the Plaza in order
<br />to conduct the remote broadcast provided,that someone remained in
<br />both vans at all times in case of an emergency since they would be
<br />parked in the fire lane. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski,
<br />seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the request was approved with
<br />the stipulation that both vans be manned at all times.
<br />REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENT OF RAILROAD CROSSING
<br />(RUM VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION)
<br />A letter from George E. Divjak, President of the Rum Village Neighbor-
<br />hood Association, 829 West Calvert Street, was received by the Board.
<br />In his letter, Mr. Divjak requested that the repair and rebuilding
<br />of the railroad crossings at Ewing, Calvert and Indiana Avenue between
<br />Main and Lafayette; Kemble, 1500 block; Prairie Avenue, 1500 block;
<br />Walnut, 1500 block, Franklin at Indiana, be considered because all
<br />crossings were in very bad condition. Mr. Kernan recommended that
<br />the Engineering Department conduct an inspection of the crossings
<br />to determine in what condition they are in and to what extent
<br />improvements would need to be made. Mr. Leszczynski and Mr. Hill
<br />agreed to Mr. Kernan's suggestion.
<br />REQUEST OF HOPE CHAPEL CHURCH OF GOD FOR PARADE
<br />In a letter to the Board, Pastor John A. Railton requested permission
<br />to hold a parade to advertise the Hope Chapel Church of God Vacation
<br />Bible School on Saturday, June 6, 1981, at 1:00 p.m., with the route
<br />being up and down the neighborhood streets bounded by Vernon and
<br />Marine, Indiana and Ewing. Pastor Railton requested a police escort
<br />for the group, which he estimated would number 100 persons including
<br />a couple of floats, two buses, a van, ambulance and bicyclists and
<br />pedestrians. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by
<br />Mr. Hill and carried, the request was referred to the Bureau of
<br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Traffic Division for reivew
<br />and recommendation.
<br />APPROVAL OF PARADE REQUEST - JUSTICE AND PEACE CENTER
<br />A request of the Justice and Peace Center was received for permission
<br />to conduct a march on Monday, March 23, 1981, commencing at 5:00 p.m.
<br />at St. Joseph's High School and continuing to St. Stephen's Church
<br />at 1102 Thomas Street, in observance of the anniversary of the
<br />assasination of Archbishop Romero of El Salvador and the U.S.
<br />women slain in that country. A recommendation was also received
<br />from the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for approval of the request,
<br />subject to the use of the sidewalks and obeyance of all traffic
<br />and pedestrian laws. The route to be used would be south on
<br />Michigan Street from St. Joseph High School to Washington Street,
<br />thence west on Washington to Chapin, then south on Chapin to the
<br />the Justice and Peace Center, 136 South Chapin. Following,a brief
<br />prayer service, the group will cross Chapin'at Jefferson and proceed
<br />to St. Stephen's Church, 1102 Thomas Street. Starting at Thomas
<br />Street, use of the street for the procession was recommended for
<br />approval. It was noted that the Police Traffic Division would
<br />assist in the crossing of the group at Chapin and Jefferson. Upon
<br />a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried,
<br />the parade was approved subject to the filing of the necessary
<br />insurance certificate for the use of Thomas Street.
