REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 1. 1980 <br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3500, <br />1980 (JACKSON STREET) <br />John E. Leszczynski, City. Engineer, filed an Assessment Roll with <br />respect to Vacation Resolution No. 3500, 1980, for the vacation <br />of Jackson Street from Prairie Avenue north to the first east - <br />west alley north of Prairie Avenue. The following property may <br />be injuriously or beneficially affected by such vacation: <br />Lot No. 1, Replat of Walnut 4th Addition, and <br />unplatted land directly west of and adjacent to <br />Jackson Street. <br />The Assessment Roll lists $0.00 net damages and $0.00 net benefits <br />to the abutting properties. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the Assessment Roll was filed <br />and set for public hearing on December 29, 1980. <br />APPROVE ACQUISITION OF VEHICLE AND ASSIGNMENT OF <br />VEHICLE NUMBER (POLICE DEPARTMENT) <br />Police Chief Dan Thompson explained that several used cars in the <br />S.O.S. Division were too costly to repair and it had been felt <br />a new used car should be purchased before the end of the year. <br />The amount of funds available according to the chief was $1,300, <br />and a used 1977 Ford LTD, four -door, bearin serial number <br />7B64S101625 was located at Basney -Ford for 1,370. He requested <br />Board approval of the acquisition and the assignment of Vehicle <br />No. 741 to the unit. Upon a motion made by Mr.. Kernan, seconded <br />by Mr. Hill and carried, approval was given and the vehicle was <br />assigned No. 741. <br />APPROVE ADVERTISING FOR BIDS - STREET DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT <br />AND STREET SWEEPING <br />Mr. John Baumgartner, Manager of the Bureau of Streets, requested <br />permission to advertise to receive bids for a used alley maintainer <br />and a contractual agreement for street sweeping. Mr. John <br />Leszczynski, City Engineer, advised that the city's present <br />three -year contract with Ries Equipment for the sweeping of <br />certain major thoroughfares in South Bend will be expiring soon. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the request to advertise to receive bids was approved. <br />Mr. Leszczynski further advised that the Street Department desired <br />to purchase an alley maintainer which would be similar to a <br />tractor with a grader and small front -end loader. He explained <br />that there were sufficient funds within the budget to purchase <br />a used piece of equipment. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request to advertise to <br />receive bids was approved. <br />DENY OPEN AIR STAND APPLICATION - RIVER BEND PLAZA <br />Mr. Kernan advised that, at the November 24th meeting of the <br />Board, a request of Penny Hughes to sell a natural foods cookbook <br />on River Bend Plaza was taken under advisement. Mr. Kernan stated <br />that the Board's policy in the past has been to look unfavorably <br />upon individuals or groups who sell for profit since they would <br />be in competition with the merchants who pay taxes and own or <br />rent establishments on the Plaza. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the application for <br />an open air stand license on River Bend Plaza was denied. <br />1 <br />1 <br />1 <br />
