The following property may
be injuriously or beneficially affected by such vacation:
Lot No. 1, Replat of Walnut 4th Addition, and
unplatted land directly west of and adjacent to
Jackson Street.
The Assessment Roll lists $0.00 net damages and $0.00 net benefits
to the abutting properties. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan,
seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the Assessment Roll was filed
and set for public hearing on December 29, 1980.
APPROVE ACQUISITION OF VEHICLE AND ASSIGNMENT OF
VEHICLE NUMBER (POLICE DEPARTMENT)
Police Chief Dan Thompson explained that several used cars in the
S.O.S. Division were too costly to repair and it had been felt
a new used car should be purchased before the end of the year.
The amount of funds available according to the chief was $1,300,
and a used 1977 Ford LTD, four -door, bearin serial number
7B64S101625 was located at Basney -Ford for 1,370. He requested
Board approval of the acquisition and the assignment of Vehicle
No. 741 to the unit. Upon a motion made by Mr.. Kernan, seconded
by Mr. Hill and carried, approval was given and the vehicle was
assigned No. 741.
APPROVE ADVERTISING FOR BIDS - STREET DEPARTMENT EQUIPMENT
AND STREET SWEEPING
Mr. John Baumgartner, Manager of the Bureau of Streets, requested
permission to advertise to receive bids for a used alley maintainer
and a contractual agreement for street sweeping. Mr. John
Leszczynski, City Engineer, advised that the city's present
three -year contract with Ries Equipment for the sweeping of
certain major thoroughfares in South Bend will be expiring soon.
Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried,
the request to advertise to receive bids was approved.
Mr. Leszczynski further advised that the Street Department desired
to purchase an alley maintainer which would be similar to a
tractor with a grader and small front -end loader. He explained
that there were sufficient funds within the budget to purchase
a used piece of equipment. Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan,
seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request to advertise to
receive bids was approved.
DENY OPEN AIR STAND APPLICATION - RIVER BEND PLAZA
Mr. Kernan advised that, at the November 24th meeting of the
Board, a request of Penny Hughes to sell a natural foods cookbook
on River Bend Plaza was taken under advisement. Mr. Kernan stated
that the Board's policy in the past has been to look unfavorably
upon individuals or groups who sell for profit since they would
be in competition with the merchants who pay taxes and own or
rent establishments on the Plaza. Upon a motion made by Mr.
Kernan, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the application for
an open air stand license on River Bend Plaza was denied.
1
1
1
