REGULAR MEETING <br />JULY 28. 1980 <br />because of the need for excessive manpower and uncertainty involved <br />in the extent of the race and major intersections to be crossed. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the request was denied and the petitioning party was asked to <br />contact the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting and the Traffic Division <br />of the Police Department in an effort to come up with a modified <br />version of the route to be re- submitted to the Board. <br />APPROVAL OF FUND SOLICITATION AT INTERSECTIONS <br />(AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY) <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Light- <br />ing, submitted for Board approval his recommendations concerning <br />the request of the American Cancer Society for a fund solicitation <br />at various intersections on August 16, 1980 (rain date of August 23), <br />between the hours of 10:00 a.m, and 2:00 p.m. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the fund solicita- <br />tion was approved in accordance with the following: <br />1. Guidelines adopted by the Board must be adhered to, <br />and a Hold Harmless Agreement to indemnify the city <br />must be approved by the Legal Department and filed <br />with the Board prior to the date of the solicitation. <br />2. Locations approved: <br />a. Eddy Street and State Road 23 <br />b. Ireland Road and Miami <br />C. Eddy and Jefferson <br />d. Edison and Ironwood <br />e. Mishawaka and Twyckenham <br />f. Monroe and Michigan Street <br />g. Lincolnway West and Bendix <br />h. North Side Boulevard and Sample <br />(8:00 a.m. to noon) <br />i. Logan and McKinley - approved by City of South <br />Bend SUBJECT TO concurrence by City of Mishawaka <br />3. Locations denied: <br />a. Angela and Michigan - because of excessive traffic <br />volumes and approach speeds. <br />b. Ireland and Michigan - because of excessive traffic <br />volumes and approach speeds. <br />4. The following intersections are either located in Mishawaka <br />or the county, and the City of South Bend would have no <br />jurisdiction: <br />a. Ironwood and State Road 23 <br />b. State Road 23 and Grape <br />c. Western and Mayflower <br />APPROVE BLOCK PARTIES <br />Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and <br />Lighting, recommended approval of the request of Mrs. Phillip R. <br />Harris for a block party in the 2300 and 2400 blocks of Hollywood <br />Place on Saturday, August 2, 1980, from mid - afternoon until <br />10:00 p.m. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Hill and carried, the block party was approved. <br />A request from Mrs. Joan Bukowski for a block party in the 3300 <br />block of Locke Street on Saturday, August 2, 1980, from 3:00 p.m. <br />to midnight was recommended favorably by the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Hill and carried, the request was approved. <br />C <br />
