h } <br />REGULAR 14EETING <br />JUNE 23, 1980 <br />APPROVE STREET CLOSINGS - ETHNIC FESTIVAL <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Ethnic Festival Coordinator, requested the closing <br />of certain streets in conjunction with the Ethnic Festival and the <br />fireworks display to be held on July 4, 1980. She explained that, <br />at this time, the only streets which would need to be closed for <br />the fireworks display would be LaSalle in the area of the display <br />and Hydraulic Avenue. She was uncertain at this time just exactly <br />what streets would be involved in the Ethnic Festival to be <br />celebrated downtown. Ms. Dobski was instructed to confer with <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting concerning the street closings. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and <br />carried, those streets to be designated for closing by the Bureau <br />of Traffic and Lighting were approved. <br />APPROVE AGREEMENT WITH MILLRACE, INC. FOR FIREWORKS DISPLAY <br />Ms. Mikki Dobski, Ethnic Festival Coordinator, explained that a site <br />for the fireworks display had been selected and approved by the <br />Fire Department at the southeast corner of Hydraulic Avenue and <br />Madison Street. The lot is a vacant lot owned by Millrace, Inc. <br />and permission had been given for use of the lot by the city for, <br />the display provided the city cleaned up the lot the following day. <br />Mr. Crone advised that he would be preparing an agreement between <br />the city and Millrace, Inc. for use of said lot. The stipulations <br />contained in the agreement would provide insurance on the part of <br />the city with Millrace being named as an additional insured, a hold <br />harmless clause on Millrace's behalf and the cleaning of the lot <br />by the city on the following day. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, approval for the execution of said <br />agreement was given. <br />APPROVAL OF DUNK TANK FOR JAYCEES ETHNIC FESTIVAL <br />A request had been received from the Jaycees to set up a dunk tank <br />on the Plaza in conjunction with the Ethnic Festival, July 4, 5 <br />and 6, 1980. At the June filth meeting of the Board, the request <br />had been referred to the Legal Department and Ms. Dobski for review <br />and recommendation. Ms. Dobski stated that a location had been <br />chosen for the dunk tank, being in the City Parking Lot No. 1 adjacent <br />to the Newman's Building. Mr. Hill advised that there would be no <br />problem with the tank as long as the Jaycees provided the necessary <br />insurance and liability waivers. Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the request was approved subject <br />to the filing of the required insurance and liability waivers. <br />APPROVAL OF FOOD BOOTHS ETHNIC FESTIV. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the following food booths were approved for.the 1980 Ethnic Festival: <br />Dainty Maid - World's largest apple pie <br />George Brown — Curry chicken, smoked chicken, fish <br />Michiana Amateur Baseball All American stand <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, <br />the following display booths were approved: <br />Library - Bookmobile <br />L. P. Zimmerman Christian Science Reading Room <br />Jan Jenkins - Democrat voter registration <br />H. Chris Overgaard Republican voter registration <br />Myrna Thomas -- League of Women Voters <br />Penny VanEstrik - United Religious Community <br />Larry Dwyer - Bahai Faith <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, <br />the following craft booth was approved: <br />Ron and Nancy Eversole - Appalachian whittling and <br />dulcimers, traditional weaving <br />u <br />1 <br />�J <br />
