300 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />CLAIMS APPROVED <br />OCTOBER 30,1978 <br />Michael L. Vance, Deputy City Controller, submitted to the Board <br />Claim Docket Numbers 20943 to 21413 and recommended approval. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and <br />carried, the Board approved Claim Docket Numbers 20943 through <br />21413 and directed that checks for payment be issued. <br />NOVEMBER 13 MEETING DATE CHANGED <br />The County -City Building will be closed on Monday, November 13 <br />for observance of Veteran's Day. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board of Public Works.- <br />meeting was changed to Tuesday, November 14, 1978 at 9:30 a.m. <br />OPEN AIR STAND APPROVED FOR THIRTY DAYS <br />An Application of William E. Moore to operate an Open Air Stand <br />at the corner of Portage and Elwood for the sale of flowers was <br />reviewed by the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. Mr. Wadzinski <br />recommended approval of the application for a thirty -day temporary <br />period to determine the impact of the operation at this location <br />which is a multi -way stop with many school children pedestrians <br />in the area. Mr. Wadzinski also recommended that the stand be <br />located away from the direct corner of the Portage Liquor Mart <br />parking lot so it will not cause a sight distance problem or traffic <br />hazard. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner <br />and carried, the Application was approved for a thirty -day period. <br />FILING OF REPORT ON CABARET LICENSE APPLICATION <br />The Bureau of Buildings and Permits reviewed the application of <br />Gus Lampos for a Class B Cabaret License at 819 S. Michigan Street. <br />John E. DeLee, Building Commissioner, advised the Board that this <br />is an adult business under the Controlled Use Zoning Ordinance and <br />may not be located within five hundred feet of a residentially - <br />zoned district. The above property is within five hundred feet of <br />a residential zone and expansion of the controlled use would not <br />be permitted. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Brunner and carried, the report was filed and referred to the City <br />Controller's office for reply to the applicant. <br />STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT FILED <br />The Street Light Outage Report for the period October 19 through <br />27 was received. The report indicated thirty -two outages. Upon <br />motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, <br />the report was ordered filed. <br />BUREAU OF EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING SUBGRANTS APPROVED <br />Elroy Kelzenberg, Director of the Bureau of Manpower and Training, <br />submitted to the Board the following Sub - Grant Agreements: <br />Chamber of Commerce - The Sub -Grant Agreement is in the amount <br />of $108,702 and provides reimbursement to private sector employers <br />for the hiring and training of unemployed participants, providing <br />on- the -job training. <br />Indiana Vocational Technical College - The Sub -Grant Agreement is <br />in the amount of $235,923 and continues an agreement in operation <br />for five years. It provides training in welding, machine trades <br />and basic education, with referral training opportunities provided <br />for 130 to 140 individuals. <br />1 <br />
