REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 9, 1978 271
REVENUE SHARING PUBLIC HEARING SCHEDULED
Chief Michael Borkowski submitted a request to the Board for
authorization to schedule a public hearing on a revenue sharing
appropration for police motor equipment in the amount of
$200,000.00. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by
Mr. Brunner and carried, the request was approved and the Clerk
was directed to advertise for a public hearing to be held on
October 23, 1978.
MULTI -WAY STOP APPROVED AT SCENIC AND LOMBARDY
Councilman Richard Dombrowski was present and submitted a letter
to the Board advising that he was present at a meeting of the
Far West Side Neighborhood Association at which the intersection
of Scenic and Lombardy was discussed. The residents have requested
a multi -way stop at that intersection which is presently a two -way
stop. Mr. Dombrowski requested that any traffic studies and
recommendations on that intersection be forwarded to him and said
he supports the residents in the request for the installation.
Residents of the Association were present. Those speaking in
favor of the installation were Blondine Jozwiak, 782 Lombardy;
John Jozwiak, 782 Lombardy; Mrs. Sniadecki, 4714 Scenic Drive;
Irene Rybicki, 748 Lombardy Drive; and Dorothy Golomb, 810
Sylvan Lane. Residents stressed the number of school children
crossing at the intersecton, traffic generated by the park and
the high speed of motorists. Several traffic accidents have
occurred and for the safety of the pedestrians in the area, the
residents urged that a multi -way stop be installed. Per. McMahon
noted that the Board is concerned about the safety of pedestrians.
Studies have been made of the intersection and Mr. Wadzinski is
recommending installation of the three -way stop. Mr. McMahon
said the residents should be aware that this action is not going to
solve all the problems in the area with regard to speeding drivers,
drivers who do not use their turn signals or drivers who disregard
the signs. The Board will direct Captain Sweitzer to step up
enforcement in the area. It is felt that the signs will provide
some additional safety for the school children crossing the inter-
section. Mr. McMahon made a motion that the Board approve Mr.
Wadzinski's recommendation that a three -way stop be installed at
Scenic and Lombardy. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it carried.
Mrs. Sniadecki then called the attention of the Board to the sharp
curve in the 4800 block of Scenic Drive. She said parked cars
block the vision of oncoming motorists and traffic must move in a
single lane in this stretch because cars are parked on both sides of
the street. There is also a problem when snow plows push snow along
the curbs limiting the driving lane. She requested that the Board
remove parking from the north side of the 4800 block of Scenic Drive.
She noted that this is along Park property and there are no residences.
The homeowners on the south side of the street have private driveways
for parking. Mr. McMahon said the Board requests a review by the
Bureau of Traffic and Lighting of any request to remove parking from
a residential street and said the Bureau would be making a field
check of the area to determine the wishes of the property owners in
the block. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen
and carried, the Board referred the request to remove parking from
the north side of the 4800 block Scenic Drive to the Bureau of
Traffic and Lighting for review and recommendation.
