227 <br />REGULAR MEETING AUGUST 21, 1978 <br />BLOCK PARTY APPROVED - 1300 - 1400 -E. MONROE <br />Residents of the 1300 -1400 Block E. Monroe requested their street <br />be blocked on Saturday, August 26 from 5:00 p.m. to midnight for <br />a Block Party. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, reported that he had reviewed the request with the <br />Police Department and approval is recommended, with the stipulation <br />that, because of the extreme length of the block, a 12' wide <br />emergency vehicle lane be kept open at all times. Upon motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the recommendation <br />was approved. <br />BLOCK PARTY APPROVED - 1800 BLOCK MARINE STREET <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />reported to the Board that the request to block the 1800 block <br />Marine Street on September 3 from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for a <br />Block Party had been reviewed with the Police Department and <br />approval was recommended. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded <br />by Mr. Mullen and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />APPROVAL OF PARKING SPACES FORCOUNTY POLICE <br />The Board had tabled a request of Sheriff Bolerjack for on- street <br />parking spaces on Main Street for County Police vehicles and the <br />recommendation of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting. The matter <br />was now discussed. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting, had recommended that if the Board approved the <br />request, five spaces be considered, three on the west side of Main <br />Street north of the County -City Drive and two south of the drive to <br />a point north of the entrance to the First Bank. Upon motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the recommendation <br />was approved and Mr. Wadzinski was directed to install proper signage <br />for the five designated spaces. <br />PETITION TO VACATE ALLEY FILED <br />The St. Joseph Bank & Trust Company, by its Attorney Daniel A. Manion, <br />files a petition to vacate the alley south of Mishawaka Avenue from <br />Thirty- fourth Street east to the first north -south intersecting alley. <br />Petitioner has an option to purchase the property abutting the alley <br />and has petition for rezoning of the property to allow for construction <br />of a branch bank. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. <br />Mullen and carried, the petition was referred to the Bureau of <br />Engineering and the Area Plan Commission staff for review and <br />recommendation. <br />BID ADVERTISING APPROVED - SALT, LIQUID CALCIUM CHLORIDE <br />Ronald Schramski, Director of the Bureau of Streets, submitted a <br />request to the Board to advertise for bids for salt, liquid calcium <br />chloride and calcium chloride and sand for snow and ice control. Detailed <br />specifications were submitted with the request. Upon motion made. <br />by Mr.. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the request was <br />approved and the Clerk was directed to advertise, with sealed bids <br />to be received on September 5, 1978. <br />STREET LIGHT REQUEST <br />Councilman Walter Kopczynski submitted a request to the Board that <br />the street light midblock on Huron Street, between Sheridan and Albert, <br />be replaced with the same type of light as others in the area. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the request was referred to the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting for <br />review and recommendation. <br />
