204 <br />REGULAR MEETING JULY 31, 1978 <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3461 CONFIRMED <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on Vacation Resolution <br />No. 3461 for the vacation of the East -West alley between 1509 and <br />1505 Miami, from Miami Street west to the 1st north -south alley, <br />for a distance of 137 feet. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication <br />of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri- County News which <br />were found to be sufficient. Mr. McMahon reported that the petition <br />had been reviewed by the Engineering Department and the Area Plan <br />Commission and they recommend the vacation favorably to the Board. <br />Kay Grask was in attendance, representing the petitioner Phyllis <br />Feldman, who was out of the City. Ms. Grask reported that the <br />vacation is being requested to provide a parking area behind 1509 <br />Miami for the business operated there and for the improvement <br />of the neighborhood. Mr. McMahon noted the Board has been advised <br />there is a sub - standard structure located on the alley and asked <br />about removal of the structure. Ms. Grask said the owner has a <br />private contract for demolition of the structure as soon as an <br />insurance settlement is received. Mr. McMahon asked if it would <br />be necessary for any rezoning of the property for the proposed use <br />and Ms. Grask said no rezoning would be necessary. There being no <br />oth.er citizens present who wished to speak on the matter, Mr. <br />McMahon made a motion that the Vacation Resolution be confirmed and <br />an Assessment Roll prepared. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and <br />it carried. <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACT FOR MUSEUM CARPETING <br />Richard Welch, Director of Discovery Hall Museum, submitted to the <br />Board a contract with Interior Finishes, Inc. for carpeting of the <br />lobby and stairway in Discovery Hall. The contract is in the <br />amount of $1,705.00. Mr. McMahon explained that Interior Finishes, <br />Inc. submitted the low and only responsive bid for carpeting and <br />following receipt of the bid it was determined that the project <br />should be scaled down to include only the lobby and stairway. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, <br />the contract was approved. <br />BIDS ACCEPTED - SALE OF CITY -OWNED VEHICLES <br />Bids for the sale of fifteen city -owned vehicles were received on <br />July 10, 1978 and referred to the Legal Department for review. <br />Deputy City Attorney Terry Crone advised the Board that the Legal <br />Department recommends that bids be awarded to the highest bidder <br />for each vehicle. Bidders will be asked to remove <br />the cars immediately after payment of the purchase price. <br />
