51 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 20, 1978 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m, on Monday, March 20, 1978 by President Patrick M. <br />McMahon, with Mr. McMahon, Mr. Brunner and Mr. Mullen present. <br />Deputy City Attorney Terry Crone was also present. <br />AGENDA ITEMS ADDED <br />Mr. McMahon noted that the Board received two items after the <br />posting of the meeting agenda. He made a motion that a request <br />to locate a mobile unit at Ed Sikora Auto Imports, Inc., 617 <br />S. Michigan Street, and a request to advertise for bids for <br />the Street Department be added to the Agenda. Mr. Brunner seconded <br />the motion and it carried. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. McMahon reported that he had reviewed the minutes of the <br />Parch 13, 1978 meeting of the Board and he recommended that they <br />be approved as submitted. Mr. Mullen seconded the motion and it <br />carried. <br />REOUEST FOR TEMPORARY OFFICE FILED <br />Edward J. Sikora Imports, Inc., 613 S. Michigan Street, submitted <br />a request to the Board to locate a mobile closing office at 617 <br />S. Michigan, adjacent to their used car lot. The structure is new <br />and will be properly blocked and skirted. It is to be used as a <br />closing office until a permanent structure is erected. Upon <br />motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, <br />the request was filed and the Clerk was directed to contact Mr. <br />Sikora to obtain definite plans for construction of a permanent <br />strucutre. <br />REQUEST TO ADVERTISE FOR BIDS APPROVED - STREET DEPARTMENT <br />Patrick M. McMahon, Director of Public Works, and Joseph Gawrysiak, <br />Director of Transportation, submitted to the Board requests to <br />advertise for bids for 1978 Street Department vehicles and <br />contractual sweeping services. Mr. McMahon noted that the request <br />to purchase vehicles is the second year of a five -year plan to <br />acquire equipment. Seventeen items will be listed in the bid <br />request and detailed specifications will be submitted to the Board <br />on Wednesday. The contractual agreement will be for the sweeping <br />of main routes, with the Street Department to handle residential <br />street sweeping. He indicated there are four firms which might <br />submit bids on this contractual agreement. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the recommendation <br />to advertise for bids for the Street Department was approved. <br />BID AWARDED- ASPHALT STORAGE UNITS FOR STREET DEPARTMENT <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for three asphalt storage <br />units for the Street Department. The Clerk tendered proofs of <br />publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune and the Tri- County <br />News which were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened <br />and publicly read: <br />Reid Holcomb, Inc. <br />Bid was signed by R. T. Conant, <br />non - collusion affidavit was in <br />order and a 10% bid bond was <br />submitted. <br />Bid - 3 Wylie Asphalt Hot -Mix Patchers, <br />Model T.M.H. 250 - per unit $7,330.00 - Net Bid $21,990.00 <br />
