436 <br />REGULAR T-ZEETING MAY 19, 1980 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at <br />9:30 a.m., on Monday, May 19, 1980, by President Patrick M. <br />McMahon, with Mr. McMahon, Mr. Richard L. Hill and Mr. Joseph E. <br />Kernan present. Deputy City Attorney Terry A. Crone was also present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Mr. McMahon reported that the minutes of the regular meeting of <br />May 12, 1980, had been reviewed, and Mr. Kernan made a motion <br />that the minutes be approved as submitted, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - STREET DEPARTMENT MATERIALS (DE- ICING) <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for de -icing materials for <br />the Street Department. The Clerk tendered proofs of publication <br />of notice in the South Bend Tribune.and the Tri- County News.which <br />were found to be sufficient. The following bids were opened and <br />publicly read: <br />Diamond Crystal Salt Company Bid was signed by Chester I. <br />St. Clair, Michigan Schlarb, non - collusion <br />affidavit was in order, and <br />a certified check in the <br />amount of 10% of the bid <br />was submitted. <br />10,000 ton - Rock Salt $33.65/ton <br />Morton Salt Bid was signed by David B. <br />110 North Wacker Drive Nilson, non - collusion <br />Chicago, Illinois affidavit was in order, and <br />a certified check in the <br />amount of 10% of the bid <br />was submitted. <br />12,000 ton - Morton Bulk Safe -T -Salt <br />International Salt Company <br />Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania <br />12,000 ton - Rock Salt <br />Domtar Industries, Inc. <br />9950 W. Lawrence Avenue <br />Schiller Park, Illinois <br />$26.94 /ton <br />Bid was signed by John A. C. <br />Atkins, non- collusion affidavit <br />was in order, and a certified <br />check in the amount of 10% of <br />the bid was submitted. <br />$31.49 /ton <br />Bid was signed by R. J. Jarecki, <br />non - collusion affidavit was in <br />order, and a bid bond in the <br />amount of 10% of the bid was <br />submitted. <br />10,000 ton - Rock Salt $27.88/ton <br />Deputy Attorney Crone advised the Board that Domtar Industries had <br />not submitted a certified check with its bid as required; however, <br />the bid bond was in the proper amount. Upon a motion made by Mr. <br />McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, the Clerk was <br />instructed to notify the officials of Domtar Industries and advise <br />them that their bid would be considered if the proper security - -a <br />certified check in the amount of 10% of the bid - -was received in <br />the Office of the Clerk of the Board within 48 hours. <br />
