Harper Hall I Indiana University and University of Notre Dame I South Bend, IN <br />Size <br />66,000 GSF <br />Construction Cost <br />$20,000,000 <br />Project Cost <br />$15,773,000 <br />Completion Date <br />Fall 2010 <br />Building on the success of Raclin - <br />Carmichael Hall, Harper Hall represents <br />another major step in the IU School of <br />Medicine -South Bend and Notre Dame <br />collaboration to become a national center <br />of excellence in medical education and <br />research. The project expands cancer <br />research initiatives at the Indiana <br />University School of Medicine -South <br />Bend. <br />Appropriate to place <br />Respecting its context adjacent to the <br />Notre Dame campus and in a transition <br />area from the campus to the residential <br />neighborhood, Harper Hall reflects <br />a design similar to adjacent Raclin - <br />Carmichael Hall. <br />Collaborative research spaces <br />The new facility will include laboratories <br />and offices for IU School of Medicine - <br />South Bend and Notre Dame's cancer <br />research activities in the new Mike and <br />Josie Harper Cancer Research Institute. <br />Scientists from Notre Dame and Indiana <br />University will collaborate on research <br />in the area of cancer biology, with an <br />emphasis on genomics and proteomics. <br />The building is designed to accommodate <br />several complex components, <br />including bio organic chemistry, a <br />BSL -3 laboratory, NMR (900 MHz), a <br />vivarium and additional imaging.
