Campus Planning - Fishers Research and Technology Campus I Fishers Economic Development Commission I Fishers, IN
The suburban city of Fishers, Indiana,
has the perfect combination of assets that
developers look for in a potential site for
a technology and life- sciences campus.
In addition to only being 20 miles from
Indianapolis, an ideal mix of highly skilled
labor, affordable housing and a high
median family income have formed the
foundation for adding a high -tech busi-
ness park to its list of amenities.
BSA LifeStructures, who previously
developed a similar incubator facility for
Indiana University, was engaged to plan
the development of the new Fishers Re-
search and Technology Campus. As the
project's primary goal is to encourage a
place where ideas can be shared through
extensive collaboration, preliminary plans
called for an emphasis of shared space,
with walking paths between buildings,
shared retail and adequate space for
potential residential developments.
The Fishers Research and Technology
development will be designed to be a
community -type campus, inviting people
to move freely between nearby housing,
retail and work spaces with opportunities
to interact with peers at all places.
The first facility will be a 40 to
50,000- square -foot building offering
flexible wet laboratories, high -speed
connectivity, offices, shared conference
rooms and other support space that
assist entrepreneurs in expanding their
startups. Tenants will also have access to
a network of professional consultants for
ongoing support.
Construction cost estimates for the initial
building is $8 -12 million. Full- buildout will
accommodate 25 -50 startup companies.
Implementation of the Fishers Research
and Technology Campus is the result of
a long -term plan to attract technology -
focused companies. Using this approach,
the city has been able to develop demand
for research and technical jobs prior to
investing in new construction.
IL
.e.
r
F
a
-
Rima
i
JL
— — , a, _ ...E •; — . t
s.
Al 16-1pp
0
l
r
