,a] <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 3. 1980 <br />1 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was convened at 9:30 <br />a.m., on Monday, March 3, 1980, by President Patrick M. McMahon, with <br />Mr. McMahon, Mr. Kernan and Mr. Hill present. Assistant City Attorney <br />James A. Masters was also present. <br />MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Kernan, seconded by Mr. McMahon and carried, <br />the minutes of the February 25, 1980, meeting of the Board were approved <br />as submitted. <br />OPENING OF BIDS - GARAGE PORTION, FIRST BANK CENTER <br />(DEMOLITION AND BACKFILL) <br />This was the date set for receiving bids for metal fabrications, and <br />demolition and backfill work for the garage portion of First Bank <br />Center. Originally the bids had come in above the budget for the <br />project and the bids had been rejected with the intention of re- <br />bidding that item with the bid opening set for this date. The Clerk <br />tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend Tribune <br />and the Tri- County News which were found to be sufficient. The <br />following bids were opened and publicly read: <br />Ritschard Brothers, Inc. Bid was signed by Carmelo Ritschard <br />1204 West Sample and Donald Ritschard, non - collusion <br />South Bend, Indiana affidavit was in order and a 5% bid <br />bond was submitted. <br />Demolition and Backfill Work - Bid Package #122 $46,900.00 <br />O'Neal Trucking Co., Inc. Bid was signed by Julius O'Neal, Jr., <br />1737 N. Elmer Street non- collusion affidavit was in order, <br />South Bend, Indiana and a certified check in the amount <br />of $1,963.10 was submitted. <br />Demolition and Backfill Work - Bid Package #122 $39,262.00 <br />Mr. David Jahn, Sollitt Construction Company, explained that the <br />above project consisted of demolition of the concrete along the west <br />side of the property and backfilling on the north and south sides of <br />the property and the building of earth brims in those areas. The <br />total project budget was $24,500.00. Mr. McMahon asked why there <br />were no bids submitted for the metal fabrication work, and Mr. Jahn <br />stated that he did not understand why in view of the fact that four <br />contractors picked up the bid package. He indicated that the project <br />budget for the metal fabrications was $20,200.00. Upon a motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the bids were <br />referred to the Engineering Department for review and recommendation. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Kernan and carried, <br />the bid package for metal fabrications will be re- advertised with the <br />bid opening set for March 17, 1980, at 9:30 a.m. Mr. McMahon asked <br />that Mr. Jahn meet with the contractors concerning this project in the <br />hopes of receiving favorable bids on March 17th. <br />PUBLIC HEARING ON ASSESSMENT ROLL - VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3485, <br />1979. (SOUTH BEND MEDICAL FOUNDATION) <br />This being the date set, hearing was held on the Assessment Roll with, <br />respect to Vacation Resolution No. 3485, 1979, for the vacation of a <br />14' north -south alley between Main and Lafayette, starting at Navarre, <br />thence south for a distance of 99'; and the 14' east -west alley <br />between Navarre and Marion, starting at Lafayette; thence east for a <br />distance of 165' to the intersection of the north - south alley.. The <br />Clerk tendered proofs of publication of notice in the South Bend <br />Tribune and the Tri- County News which were found to be sufficient. <br />
