i <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 21. 1979 <br />STREET LIGHT RECOMMENDATION APPROVED <br />Joseph J. Pluta, Assistant Manager of the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting, recommended removal of the 20,0001, light on the <br />northeast corner of LaSalle and Michigan from the SLC Tariff <br />and adding it'to the SLS Tariff. Total cost per month is <br />$12.11. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen <br />and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />HANDICAPPED SPACE NEAP J..M.S. BUILDING APPROVED <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />reported to the Board that the request of the A.G.A. Realty Co. <br />for installation of handicapped parking spaces in the vicinity <br />of the J.M.S. Building had been reviewed. He recommended the <br />installation of one space to serve the building and surrounding <br />area,.with the location of the space to be determined by a <br />field investigation due to anticipated installation problems with <br />a vaulted sidewalk. The Bureau will attempt to locate the space <br />as near to the loading; zone and the main entrance of the building <br />as possible on the east side of Main Street. Upon motion made <br />by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Board <br />approved the recommendation. <br />WATCH CHILDREN SIGNS APPROVED FOR WOODMONT <br />Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager of-the' Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, <br />reported that he had reviewed the request o`' residents of Woodmont <br />Avenue for the installation of speed bumps and Watch Children signs <br />on Woodmont, between Altgeld and Greenwood. Mr. Wadzinski <br />noted that speed bumps are not installed on public roadways in <br />South Bend. He indicated that Watch Children signs would be <br />installed in the,,two- block area and Captain Sweitzer will be <br />advised of- the.,s:ignage -. .Residents will be asked to cooperate with <br />the Police Department in identifying habitual violators of speed <br />laws in this residential district. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the recommendation was approved. <br />TEMPORARY STREET CLOSINGS FOR MEMORIAL DAY PARADE FILED <br />The Bureau of Traffic and Lighting advised the Board that street <br />closings would be required to provide for traffic control during <br />the West Side Veterans Memorial Day Parade on May 28. The <br />following information was submitted: Close Olive Street from <br />Huron to Poland, Close Ford Street from Olive to Phillipa, Close <br />Maple Street from Western to Napier and designate No Parking areas <br />as needed on Ford Street, Lombardy, Huron and Western Avenue. <br />Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and <br />carried, the notification was filed, <br />BLOCK PARTY APPROVED - 27TH STREET <br />The Board received a request from Mrs. Vera Liepold to close <br />27th Street, from Wall to Hastings, on Friday, June 1 for a <br />Block Partyfrom 5:00 p.m. to midnight and the recouffnendation of <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting that the request had been <br />reviewed and approval was recommended. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr, Brunner and carried, the Block Party <br />was approved. <br />
