5'7 <br />REGULAR MEETING MAY 21, 1979 <br />APPROVAL OF CONTRACT - RENTAL-,OF UNIFORMS <br />A contract with Monarch Uniform Company for the rental of uniforms <br />for various city departments was prepared by Terry A. Crone <br />in accordance with the bid accepted by the Board. The contract <br />has now been executed by the Company and the required performance <br />bond has been submitted. The contract provides for payment of <br />$930.48 a week for a two year period. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the contract <br />was approved. <br />FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3471 <br />Patrick M. McMahon, Civil City Engineer, files an Assessment Poll <br />with respect to Vacation Resolution No. 3471 for the vacation of <br />the first north -south alley east of Bendix Drive, running from <br />Green Street south to Bonds Avenue and the west 23' of the east - <br />west alley running between Lots 29 and 35 of a part of Westchester's <br />First Sub. The Assessment Roll lists $0.00 net benefits and <br />$0.00 net damages to the abutting properties. Upon motion made by <br />Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Assessment <br />Roll was filed and set for public hearing on June 18 at the <br />regular meeting of the Board. Mr. McMahon noted receipt of <br />notification from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company <br />that there is a four inch low pressure gas main located in the <br />alley sought to be vacated and they do not waive their right to <br />continue to occupy the alley. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, <br />seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the notification was ordered <br />filed and sent to the petitioner. <br />FILING OF LETTER FROM COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER RE: PHILLIPA ST. SEWERS <br />The following letter was received by the Board: <br />"Board of Public Works <br />Gentlemen: <br />I have. received numerous complaints concerning a septic <br />system located at 2215 Hillside Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. <br />Apparently in this area, there is no sanitary sewage line. <br />The system in question has over recent years permitted <br />sewage to surface. <br />Pursuant to Burns 16- 1 -4 -11, I hereby determine that this <br />condition constitutes a dangerous health condition which <br />if permitted to continue may transmit, generate or promote <br />disease. <br />I hereby order the City of South Bend through its appropriate <br />agencies to enter into immediate steps to enable and compel <br />residents in this area to connect to a sanitary sewage system. <br />I hereby further call upon you to advise us as to a reasonable <br />time schedule for effectuating this plan and to give the <br />Health Department notifications of what steps you intend to <br />take. <br />If I have not heard from you w t-zin` ten (10)days, I will have <br />no alternative but, according to the statute referenced above, <br />to contact the prosecuting attorney and or to institute <br />proceedings in court for enforcement of this order. <br />
