5'7 REGULAR MEETING MAY 21, 1979 APPROVAL OF CONTRACT - RENTAL-,OF UNIFORMS A contract with Monarch Uniform Company for the rental of uniforms for various city departments was prepared by Terry A. Crone in accordance with the bid accepted by the Board. The contract has now been executed by the Company and the required performance bond has been submitted. The contract provides for payment of $930.48 a week for a two year period. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the contract was approved. FILING OF ASSESSMENT ROLL, VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 3471 Patrick M. McMahon, Civil City Engineer, files an Assessment Poll with respect to Vacation Resolution No. 3471 for the vacation of the first north -south alley east of Bendix Drive, running from Green Street south to Bonds Avenue and the west 23' of the east - west alley running between Lots 29 and 35 of a part of Westchester's First Sub. The Assessment Roll lists $0.00 net benefits and $0.00 net damages to the abutting properties. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Mullen and carried, the Assessment Roll was filed and set for public hearing on June 18 at the regular meeting of the Board. Mr. McMahon noted receipt of notification from the Northern Indiana Public Service Company that there is a four inch low pressure gas main located in the alley sought to be vacated and they do not waive their right to continue to occupy the alley. Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and carried, the notification was ordered filed and sent to the petitioner. FILING OF LETTER FROM COUNTY HEALTH OFFICER RE: PHILLIPA ST. SEWERS The following letter was received by the Board: "Board of Public Works Gentlemen: I have. received numerous complaints concerning a septic system located at 2215 Hillside Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. Apparently in this area, there is no sanitary sewage line. The system in question has over recent years permitted sewage to surface. Pursuant to Burns 16- 1 -4 -11, I hereby determine that this condition constitutes a dangerous health condition which if permitted to continue may transmit, generate or promote disease. I hereby order the City of South Bend through its appropriate agencies to enter into immediate steps to enable and compel residents in this area to connect to a sanitary sewage system. I hereby further call upon you to advise us as to a reasonable time schedule for effectuating this plan and to give the Health Department notifications of what steps you intend to take. If I have not heard from you w t-zin` ten (10)days, I will have no alternative but, according to the statute referenced above, to contact the prosecuting attorney and or to institute proceedings in court for enforcement of this order.
