A
REGULAR MEETING 14ARCH 19, 1979
STREET LIGHT OUTAGE REPORT FILED
The Street Light Outage Report for the period March 8 to 14 was
submitted to the Board. The report indicated twenty -one outages.
Upon motion made by Mr. McMahon, seconded by Mr. Brunner and
carried, the report was ordered filed.
COMPLAINT - KUBIAK'S TAVERN, 2201 BERTRAND STREET
Councilman Walter Szymkowiak and two residents of the area near
Kubiak's Tavern at 2201 Bertrand Street, were present. Mrs.
Lichnerowicz, 2022 Bertrand Street, protested the activities at
the tavern, citing excessive noise, illegal parking, double
parking, litter and debris as conditions the residents have to put
up with. She noted this is an area of well -kept homes and the
people want to maintain their properties and stay in the area.
She said the residents should not have to accept the tavern
operation and the problems it causes. She also complained. that
the petition remonstrating against the teen -age night club at
Kubiak's tavern was posted in the window of the tavern and expressed
concern that those who frequent the tavern may use this information
to harrass the neighborhood residents who signed the petition. She
asked why they were given a copy of the petition. Mr. McMahon
noted that all documents filed with the Board of Public Works become
public records and are available upon request. Mrs. Lichnerowicz
then related an incident when her daughter, who is eighteen years old,
attempted to drive her car home from work and had to stop in front
of the tavern for twenty minutes because the cars double parked
prevented her from driving ahead. Councilman Szymkowiak expressed
his concern about the activities at the tavern. He said there are
many neighborhood taverns which do not cause problems. When this
tavern was operated originally it caused no operations. In recent
years, the owner has-attempted to put in a teen -age night club.
That was not allowed because there is liquor on the premises and this
is a violation of the liquor laws. The tavern is now open as an
over - twenty -one night club on Friday and Saturday each week. Mr.
Szvmkowiak said these citizens a.re• trying to keep up their properties
and he did not want to see tnis situ
are concerned about the posting of t
Mr. Brunner asked if the residents f
intimidate them and they agreed that
Mr. Brunner asked if there was danci
present said they did not know becau
establishment.
