FMAOA <br />June 13, 1955 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Safety was held Monday, <br />June 13, 1955, at 10:00 A. M. All members were present. Minutes of <br />the previous meeting were read and approved. Cichowicz, City Sealer, and <br />brought to the Board's attention his need for a 100 - gallon portable test <br />measure to check and - certify the accuracy of the fuel oil metering equip- <br />ment of the delivery trucks of fuel oil vendors. Inasmuch as this need <br />was anticipated and funds appropriated for this purpose, the Board <br />directed the Clerk to proceed with the necessary advertising to obtain <br />bids for the.' supplying of this equipment. <br />Inspector's Prosecution Report, dated June 1, 1955, was examined and <br />ordered filed. <br />Copy of Division of Weights and Measures Report, submitted by <br />Inspector Cichowicz for the month of May, was examined and ordered filed. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, being present, placed before the Board, <br />the resignation, by reason of having attained the required years of service <br />for retirement, of Detective Sergeant, Lewis C. Rourke. <br />having "recommended the acceptance of the resignation, the CBoardGauthorized <br />the retirement of Detective Sgt. Rourke, allowing terminal leave vacation <br />for the period of June 16th to 30th inclusive, whereby actual severance <br />from the Police Department is effective July 1, 1955• <br />The department's need for one new fixed or base station FM radio <br />transmitter receiver- unit and eight new mobile FM radio transmitter <br />receiver units was brought to the Board attention. <br />this need was anticipated and funds were a In view of the fact <br />t <br />able to meet the cost of this equipment, the rBoard directed the re Clerk avail <br />herClerk1l <br />to proceed with the required advertising for bids. <br />The Police Department application of Jos. J. Radecki was received <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />Upon the recommendation of Chief of Police, R. J. Gillen, the Board <br />appointed the following to be Special Police in and for the City of South <br />Bend and Bendix Aviation Company: <br />Gerald E. DeLong William H. Cooper <br />Robert J.
