n"I'm <br />March 21, 1955 <br />A regular meeting of the <br />Board of <br />Public Safety was held Monday, <br />March 21, 1955, at 10:00 A. <br />M. All <br />members were present. Minutes <br />of the <br />previous meeting were read <br />and approved. J. Duck, being present, brought to the Boards attention <br />this date having been set for hearing in the matter of Fireman - Robert Shultz, <br />suspension. Fireman Shultz failed to appear in response to directive from <br />he Board that he appear at this time, and the Board ordered that formal <br />barges be served upon him and hearing set for March 28, 1955 at 9:00 A. M. <br />.S.T. <br />The Fire Chief then recommended to the Board, promotion of Lieutenant <br />Earl Null of Engine Company No. 9, to the rank of Captain, in replacement <br />of Captain John Adamski, retired, and his assignment to Engine Company No. 12. <br />he Board approved the promotion to be effective April 1, 1955• <br />LECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Next appeared before the Board S. C. Morse, District Supervisor, <br />lectrical Maintenance, New York Central Railroad. Mr. Morse first read the <br />rdinance governing the railroad's responsibilities relative to providing <br />he necessary lighting for railroad crossings within municipal boundaries. <br />iscussion was then given to share of expense for the 4000 lumen lights to <br />e placed at the Sibley Street and Florence Avenue crossings. The Board <br />hen adopted the following resolution: <br />RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, <br />INDIANA, THAT A STREET LIGHT BE INSTALLED at each of the intersections of <br />Sibley Street and Florence Avenue with the New York Central Railroad branch, <br />each of these two lights to be 4000 lumen. The total cost for these lights <br />will be two dollars and sixty cents ($2.60) per light permmonth. The Board <br />Of Public Works and Safety, on behalf of the City of South Bend, agrees to <br />pay seventy cents (9.70) per month per light, and we ask that the New York <br />Central Railroad Company pay one dollar and ninety cents ($1.90) per month <br />par light. <br />Superintendent Hunsberger being present, the Board directed that he <br />proceed to make a survey of the McKinley Terrace Addition with a view to <br />d termining such critical points in the area as require the installation <br />Of street lights at this time. <br />The recommendation of Supt. Hunsberger that a 4000 lumen light be <br />stalled on the southwest corner of Lawton and Olive Streets, was approved <br />the Board. <br />
