June 1, 1954 <br />PQLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police,Richard J. Gillen, was present and some discussion was <br />given the matter of Police participation in Memorial Day parades. No <br />definite conclusion was reached in this matter. <br />The Chief of Police then presented the request of Police Officer, <br />Al D. Voorde for a six months leave of absence. Office Voorde appeared <br />b ore the Board and his request was granted with the definite understanding <br />t_a.t re- assignment to duty after the six months period would be contingent <br />upon an existing vacancy and his being able to pass satisfactorily the <br />regulation physical examination at the time vacancy occurs. Chief Gillen <br />r commended the granting of this leave of absence. <br />Police Department applications of Frank J. Andert and Richard J. Zurat <br />w re examined and ordered placed on file. <br />,LECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />Superintendent Ira Hunsbergerts recommendation for the installation of <br />a 4000 lumen light on the northeast corner of Elwood and Goodland Avenues <br />was approved by the Board. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT: <br />Fire Chief, Richard J. Duck, being present brought to the attention <br />of the Board, Fireman Robert Schultz failure to comply with the Boardts <br />orders that he have his accounts with all creditors in a satisfactory <br />condition by May lst. The Fire Chief stated that numerous phone calls <br />had been received since that date from dissatisfied creditors on Fireman <br />A regular meeting of the <br />Board of <br />Public Safety was held Tuesday, <br />une 1, 1954, at 10 :00 A. M. <br />All members <br />were present. Minutes of <br />the <br />revious meeting were read and <br />approved.
