Gillen, being present, took up with the Board, <br />the repeated hazard and traffic congestion occurring on streets which are <br />main arterial State Highways,in the form of excavating jobs, which are pro- <br />longed and which in some instances have taken up fully one -half the.width <br />of the street. The Chief recommended the extending of the regulation, <br />which governs such excavations in the downtown district, to govern also <br />excavations made in any street, being a part of the Indiana_ State Highway <br />system, within the city limits. The Board approved the recommendation and <br />directed that this regulation is hereupon effective and all contractors <br />having Excavatorts Bonds in effect with the City are to be so notified. <br />A letter from the Sheriff of Allen County, Harold S. Zeis, under date <br />of December.16th, addressed to the Board of Public Safety and Police <br />Chief, Richard J. Gillen, commending the °Police Department for the assistance <br />and cooperation rendered to his deputies,on a recent occasion, was read and <br />ordered placed on file. <br />Police Department applications of the following four applicants were <br />examined and ordered filed: <br />VVm. F. Adelsperger, Jr. LeRoy C. Barritt <br />John E. Deren John A. Haney <br />
