Voelkel <br />Fire Chief Duck then brought to the attention of the Board, his depart - <br />ment's need for an additional No. 600 Foam Nozzle, a Model 6 -L Pro - <br />portioner and fifty gallons of Foamite Airfoam Liquid. The Clerk was <br />directed to proceed with the purchase of these supplies. <br />The Fire Department application of Louis F. Schleiger, Jr. was examined <br />and ordered placed on file. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, recommended to the <br />Board the appointment of L. B. Dixon, an employee of The Torrington <br />Company, as a special police officer in and for the City of South Bend. <br />Appointment was, thereupon, approved and signed by the Board. <br />Chief Gillen, then brought to the attention of the Board, the ,olace <br />ment of applicant, Irene Mary Dobrucki, on the staff of the Police <br />Auxiliary School Patrol, retroactive to and including September 12, 1953• <br />The Board approved the appointment. <br />The Police Department applications of Clement P. Degucz, Frank Loch - <br />mandy, and George C. Van Goey were examined and ordered placed on file. <br />Permission was requested for the joint co- operative effort on the <br />part of the Knights of Columbus and the South Bend Shrine Club to raise <br />funds for donation in the interests of crippled children by the sale <br />of balloons on specified downtown street corners, Saturday, October 17th, <br />1953• Permission was granted by the Board accordingly. <br />Chief of Police Gillen brought to the attention of the Board, his <br />department's need for a recording device, to cost approximately $185.00, <br />The Chief explained the value of this equipment in obtaining confessions <br />and thereby convictions, and funds being available for additional equip- <br />ment, the Board authori zed its purchase and directed the Clerk to proceed <br />to secure the recorder selected by the Chief. <br />LECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />The recommendation of Supt.
