POLICE DEPARTMENT: X <br />Chief.of Police, Richard J. Gillen,,being present, brought to the <br />attention of the Board, his departmentis need for a station wagon or <br />deliv r��,,� type sedan, converted into an ambulance type of vehicle. Funds <br />Navin fggally transferred, and made available for this purpose, the <br />Board directed the Clerk to proceed with the required advertising. <br />The Chief then brought to the attention of the Board,'the need <br />for replacement of the Police Department Studebaker Car No. 45-, damaged <br />in accident at Prairie Avenue and Sample Street, July 2b, 1953,, and <br />submitted written details of transaction pending, which, meeting with <br />the Boardts approval, the chairman directed the Chief to perform the <br />transfer of ;title and consummate the transaction. The Board directed <br />the Clerk to proceed with the legal.advertising for the..replacement <br />vehicle. <br />The Police Department application of L. S. Batalis was examined by <br />the Board and ordered placed on file. <br />Next appeared before the Board, retired Police Lieutenant, Larue H. <br />Wert, informing the Board of his failure to receive clothing allowance <br />check for 1952. It was pointed out.to Mr. Wert, by the chairman of the <br />Board, that claim for such allowance would have had to have been filed <br />previous to December 31, 1952, and accordingly the Board cannot recognize <br />a claim, for which funds had not previously been encumbered, involving <br />any charge against the City incurred in a former year. <br />The Board next examined a letter from the Prosecuting Attorney, <br />under date of September 23,,1953, and directed that this be referred to <br />Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />The recommendation of Superintendent Ira Hunsberger for the instal - <br />lationof three b000 lumen lights on Gertrude Street, between Fairview <br />and Ewing Avenue, was approved by the Board. <br />The recommendation of Superintendent Hunsberger for the installation <br />of a 4000 lumen light at the intersection of Rosemary Lane and-Edison <br />Road, and at southeast corner of Meade Street and Kenwood Avenue was <br />approved by the Board. <br />The Police Department Report for the month of August was received <br />and ordered filed. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board, the <br />meeting was adjourned at 11 :30 A.
