This
unique structure has a rich connection as part of the history of South Bend.
The proposed project is respectful to the building's heritage while
allowing it to remain in its original location — always the best option for a
historic structure.
The Chicago Style structure possesses a high degree of exterior
architectural integrity. As meaningful is its remarkable barrel vaulted
interior space. The City of South Bend staff as well as staff and
management of the Silverhawks have gone to lengths to be sympathetic to
the building for the new use and include our office as well as Jewish
Federation in the design conversation. The design of the repurposing and
the associated changes will nicely bridge the historic nature of the building
while providing for the new use. The proposed project meets the
requirements of the historic covenants our organization has on the
building.
The proposed repurposing of the building for use by the Silverhawks will
provide a tangible link for the community to the building's past while
providing an economically viable and respectful new use. We urge your
approval of the request.
Sincerely,
Todd A.
