The Salvation Army
Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center
900 W. Western Avenue
South Bend, IN 46601
October 26, 2010
South Bend Redevelopment Commission
City of South Bend, 12"' Floor
County — City Building
227 W. Jefferson Blvd
South Bend, IN 46601
RE: Covelesky Park Improvements
Dear Members,
The proposed improvements to "The Cove" offer the area an amazing opportunity to continue to change
and develop the City of South Bend for generations to come. The Salvation Army fully supports this
project and encourages the Redevelopment Commission to approve these changes and additions making
this area even greater for our community to enjoy.
The Salvation Army has recently made a $36,200,000 investment with the construction of the Ray and
Joan Kroc Corps Community Center. This addition to our community will forever change the landscape
of the area making the Western Avenue corridor a destination. The proposed improvements to "The
Cove" will further enhance the incredible possibilities for youth, adults, families and seniors to enjoy the
education and recreational facilities that will enhance their lives and provide much needed amenities for
developing their character and well being.
The improvements to the landscape and ball park will not only draw other businesses to invest in this
area, but make it a place for our community to promote and encourage others to enjoy. With "The
Cove" and "The Kroc Center" just two blocks from each other we can share our resources to promote
community involvement and economic development. The Kroc Center will bring to the area over 125
full and part time jobs to the community. Add this to the additional jobs that will be brought to the area
through other businesses wanting to locate to this highly marketable area make this a win, win for the
citizens of South Bend.
r Allow me to thank you in advance for making the decision to make South Bend the City where positive
change and a commitment to excellence are continually displayed.
Sincerel %
LA
Robert A. Webster, Major
Senior Kroc Center Officer
South Bend, Indiana
