Chief A. 0. <br />Brown appeared before the Board and reported the attendance of Asstt. <br />Chiefs Cecil McHenry and Andrew Vargyas at the arson school, Monday <br />through Friday of this week, which is being held at Purdue University; <br />authority for their attendance having been granted by Chief Duck. <br />ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT: <br />The installation of 4000 lumen lights, at the following locations, <br />in accordance with the recommendations of Superintendent Ira Hunsberger, <br />received the approval of the Board: <br />Northeast corner of Miami Street and Byron Drive <br />Intersection of Byron Drive and Brookton Drive <br />Byron Drive, between Nos. 1153 and 1201 <br />Alley intersection between Western Avenue and <br />Napier Street and <br />Chapin and Pine Streets. <br />Superintendent Ira Hunsberger, being present, asked permission from <br />the Board to attend the annual meeting of the I.M.S.A., to be held Thursday, <br />Friday and Saturday of this week at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Permission <br />was granted. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT: <br />Chief of Police, Richard J. Gillen, being present, first reported <br />to the Board, the repeated violation of the City Ordinance against the <br />usurpation of the sidewalk by business establishments, citing a particular <br />instance where continued warning has effected no results. The chairman <br />of the Board directed the Chief to call upon Attorney George Crane, with <br />the request that a letter setting a definite deadline be sent the offender, <br />and upon reaching the deadline to proceed to issue warrant for arrest. <br />Chief Gillen next reported on the petition for an Auxiliary Police <br />woman, referred by the Board to Traffic Engineer, E. H. Miller, at the <br />previous regular meeting. The Chief informed the Board that investigation <br />reveals not to exceed eleven school children crossing at the intersection <br />of Portage, California, Cottage Grove and DeMaude Avenue. He pointed out <br />
