Dr. Kelly made a motion to accept the quotes and refer to staff for recommendation at the <br />August meeting. <br /> <br />V. Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Dr. Kelly made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular Board meeting held on <br /> <br />June 29, 2010 as mailed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Mullins and approved. <br /> <br />VI. Approval of Maintenance Vouchers <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dr. Kelly to approve maintenance vouchers for June 2010 totaling <br />$1,022,628.49. It was seconded by Mr. Mullins. There being no further discussion, the <br />motion was passed. <br /> <br />VII. Business of the Director <br /> <br />1. Director St. Clair reported that the 2011 budget is in the planning stage and won’t have <br />anything until the beginning of August. <br />2. He wanted to inform the Board that there is a petition being circulated around the <br />Kennedy Park neighborhood to convert tennis courts to basketball courts. Councilman <br />Henry Davis is helping with the petition. Sixty-six names are on the petition. Director St. <br />Clair met with Mr. Davis and a neighbor, Patricia Smith, regarding their request. He is <br />not opposed to the request, but wanted to hear from neighbors that are immediately near <br />the proposed courts. The courts that were at Kennedy School were removed by School <br />City because of problems. <br />3. Director St. Clair related a meeting he had with church leaders that would like to help <br />the department. They want to use the second Saturday of the month to do various projects <br />in the parks. <br />4. Asbestos at the greenhouse was recently removed. <br />5. A concrete pad was poured and a block wall was installed at the Chris Wilson Pavilion <br />in Potawatomi Park. <br />6. Director St. Clair distributed a list of vandalized locations and costs to the Board. <br /> <br />VIII. Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> <br />1. Director DeRosa reported that the River Otter exhibit is going up fast and they hope to <br />be substantially done by August 1. <br />2. A media event was held July 14 to allow the media to view the current zoo babies. <br />They include three amur leopard cubs, three red panda cubs, one takin calf and one <br />hornbill hatchling. All are endangered or threatened species. <br />3. The Road Crew has been very helpful in keeping the grounds in great shape. <br />4. The Zoo Society’s member’s picnic was held last Saturday and one thousand attended. <br />5. Paving will go forward soon. <br />6. The Zoo is a site of the upcoming Urban Adventure. <br />7. The second “Walk the Walk” was held on July 8. Many compliments were heard. <br />8. School group numbers are good, but down from last year. <br /> - 3 - <br /> <br /> <br />
