<br />V.Approval of Minutes <br /> <br />Dr. Kelly made a motion to approve the minutes of the regular Board meeting held on July <br /> <br />19, 2010 as mailed. The motion was seconded by Mr. Mullins and approved. <br /> <br /> <br />VI.Approval of Maintenance Vouchers <br /> <br />A motion was made by Dr. Kelly to approve maintenance vouchers for July 2010 totaling <br />$1,080,034.22. It was seconded by Mr. Mullins. There being no further discussion, the <br />motion was passed. <br /> <br /> <br />VII.Business of Director St. Clair <br /> <br />Director St. Clair discussed with the Board the proposed 2011 budget for the department. <br /> The staff will go before the Council on Tuesday to present and explain it. <br /> <br /> <br />VIII.Comments by the Recreation Director <br /> <br />1. Ms. O'Connor reported that the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center is on a field trip to Six <br />Flags. <br />2. The South Bend Symphony will be playing this week end at the Chris Wilson <br />Performing Arts Pavilion. <br />3. Celtic Fest will be held September 5 in Howard Park. <br />4. The Men’s Major National Softball tournament was held earlier this month. <br />5. Kid’s World was extended an extra week due to the start date of school this year. <br />6. Fall registration is starting. <br />7. The Fall Family Fun Fair will be held at Rum Village Park on September 18. <br />8. The Fall Activity Guide will be out in a couple of weeks. <br />9. The Project Hire grant has been very beneficial to the programs that were offered this <br />summer. <br /> <br /> <br />IX.Comments by the Golf Operations Director <br /> 1. Mr. Nowacki said that there were only five days of rain in July, but the days were hot <br />and humid. This stressed the courses and affected the lawn chemical budget. <br /> 2. The wells at Elbel have been cleaned to improve flow. <br /> 3. One round of the City Metro tournament was rained out at Elbel. <br /> 4. The Superintendent’s outing was held August 6 and was a success. He thanked Rich <br />Payton and Mark Bradley for the work they put in to make it a success. It was sold out <br />and several teams had to be turned away. <br /> 5. A sand trap program for the courses is almost complete. <br /> 6. Golf Digest called a year ago to confirm a story about John Wooden. It was reported <br />that he had scored a hole in one and double eagle in the same round while playing at <br />Erskine Golf Course. He asked some of the older players at the course and they couldn’t <br />confirm it. Recently, Golf Digest published an article confirming the feat. <br /> <br /> - - 3 - - <br /> <br /> <br />
