tj V J REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 31, 2007 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -JULY 2007 -PATROLMAN DAVID YOUNG Patrolman David Young was selected as Employee of the Month for July, 2007. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain Jeffrey Walters noted this officer was instrumental in apprehending a suspect in a commercial burglary crime spree. There being no further discussion, the recommendation was accepted and filed. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -AUGUST 2007 -SERGEANT DAVID HERRON Sergeant David Herron was selected as Employee of the Month for August, 2007. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain Steven Richmond noted this officer was instrumental in apprehending the suspect in a series of sex offense cases. There being no fizrflier discussion, the recommendation was accepted and filed. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -SEPTEMBER 2007 -CORPORAL KEENAN LANE Corporal Keenan Lane was selected as Employee of the Month for September, 2007. The award is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain James Andrews noted this officer was instrumental in identifying the suspect in a possible pedophile case as a past sex offender who has not registered as a sex offender. Officers are currently searching for the suspect for questioning, and or further surveillance. There being no further discussion, the recommendation was accepted and filed. FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -SEPTEMBER 2007 Chief Fautz, noted the crime statistics are down ten percent (10%) from last year. He stated the Police Department has been focusing heavily on burglaries and robberies, and the upward trend is coming down. Chief Fautz noted the outstanding work being done in his department to decrease the number of burglaries and robberies; in particular the arrest of one (1) suspect who is possibly responsible for seven (7) bank robberies. President Alford indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the Board, the statistical analysis report for the month of September 2007, as submitted by the Police Department, would be accepted for filing. The report indicated the specialized training attended, the names of the officers who attended, and the costs involved. Upon, a motion by Mr. Cottrell, seconded by Ms. Dempsey and carried, the report was accepted and filed.
