tj V J <br />REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 31, 2007 <br />EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -JULY 2007 -PATROLMAN DAVID YOUNG <br />Patrolman David Young was selected as Employee of the Month for July, 2007. The award is to <br />recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have <br />demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement <br />position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain <br />Jeffrey Walters noted this officer was instrumental in apprehending a suspect in a commercial <br />burglary crime spree. There being no further discussion, the recommendation was accepted and <br />filed. <br />EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -AUGUST 2007 -SERGEANT DAVID HERRON <br />Sergeant David Herron was selected as Employee of the Month for August, 2007. The award is <br />to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have <br />demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement <br />position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain <br />Steven Richmond noted this officer was instrumental in apprehending the suspect in a series of <br />sex offense cases. There being no fizrflier discussion, the recommendation was accepted and <br />filed. <br />EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH -SEPTEMBER 2007 -CORPORAL KEENAN LANE <br />Corporal Keenan Lane was selected as Employee of the Month for September, 2007. The award <br />is to recognize officers, civilian employees, on the South Bend Police Department who have <br />demonstrated actions noted by supervisors or citizens from both a professional law enforcement <br />position and in support of the community policing efforts with citizens of South Bend. Captain <br />James Andrews noted this officer was instrumental in identifying the suspect in a possible <br />pedophile case as a past sex offender who has not registered as a sex offender. Officers are <br />currently searching for the suspect for questioning, and or further surveillance. There being no <br />further discussion, the recommendation was accepted and filed. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL ANALYSIS REPORT -SEPTEMBER 2007 <br />Chief Fautz, noted the crime statistics are down ten percent (10%) from last year. He stated the <br />Police Department has been focusing heavily on burglaries and robberies, and the upward trend <br />is coming down. Chief Fautz noted the outstanding work being done in his department to <br />decrease the number of burglaries and robberies; in particular the arrest of one (1) suspect who is <br />possibly responsible for seven (7) bank robberies. The report indicated the specialized training attended, the names of the officers <br />who attended, and the costs involved. Upon, a motion by Mr. Cottrell, seconded by Ms. <br />Dempsey and carried, the report was accepted and filed. <br />
