~s <br />REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 31, 2007 <br />The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13th Floor, County City <br />Building, South Bend, Indiana. <br />ELECTION OF BOARD PRESIDENT <br />Mr. Alford stated that due to the resignation of former Board of Safety President Jesusa <br />Rodriguez, the Board would take nominations for a new President of the Board. Mr. BonDurant <br />moved, seconded by Mr. Cottrell, that the resignation of President Rodriguez be accepted <br />and Mr. Alford be elected as President of the Board of Safety, effective for one (1) year from <br />today, October 31, 2007. The motion carried unanimously <br />ACCEPT MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />President Alford stated unless there were objections by the members of the Board, the minutes of <br />the Public Agenda Session, Executive Session, and Regular meetings of the Board held on <br />October 10, 2007, along with the Special Meeting of October 25, 2007 would be accepted as <br />presented. <br />FIRE DEPARTMENT <br />ACCEPT AND FILE DECLARATION OF RETIREMENT -JAMES GADACZ <br />President Alford advised that Chief Howard Buchanon has submitted to the Board the <br />Application and Declaration for Retirement for Captain James Gadacz. The Board previously <br />approved Captain Gadacz's retirement, effective October 10, 2007. Chief Buchanon noted that <br />Captain Gadacz has served the Department with loyalty and distinction during the last twenty- <br />nine (29) years, and five (5) months. Chief Buchanon joined the Board in thanking him for his <br />commitment, dedication and years of distinguished service to the South Bend Fire Department <br />and the citizens of South Bend. The Declaration of Retirement was accepted and filed. <br />FILING OF MONTHLY STATISTICAL REPORT -SEPTEMBER 2007 <br />President Alford indicated that unless there were questions or objections by members of the <br />Board, the statistical report for the month of September 2007 as submitted by the Fire <br />Department would be accepted for filing. The notification from the Indiana Police and Fire Pension Fund of his approval was <br />received on October 30, 2007, so he cannot be sworn in at today's meeting. It is recommended by <br />the Police Selection Panel that he be sworn in on November 7, 2007 by the South Bend City <br />Clerk. Members of the Board congratulated Mr. Gast. <br />
