PUBLIC AGENDA SESSION JUNE 23, 2010 48 The Board of Public Safety met in the Public Agenda Session at 8:03 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 with President Juanita Dempsey, and Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, Laura Vasquez, and Eddie Miller present. Also present were Police Chief Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon, and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. The meeting was held in the Board of Public Works Meeting Room, 13th Floor County City Building, South Bend, Indiana. Board members discussed the following items from that list: Resolution No. 41 -2010 — Commendation for Engineer Brandon May — Fire Department Fire Chief Howard Buchanon stated that Engineer May is an excellent swimmer and former member of the South Bend Fire Department River Rescue team, which helped him to jump in the river to rescue a citizen. Retirement — Police Department Chief Boykins informed the Board that Corporal Michael Carey is retiring to take another job. Monthly Statistical Analysis — Police Department Board Member Eddie Miller questioned Chief Boykin on the increase in residential burglaries. He asked if any progress was being made on catching kids involved in these neighborhood burglaries. Chief Boykins stated they need more help from the neighbors. This spike in break -ins is due in part to students out of school and without jobs. Burglary becomes a full -time occupation for them, and usually it is in their own neighborhoods. Vasquez, Member ATTEST: Eddie Miller, Member lidaYM± MinCle EXECUTIVE SESSION JUNE 23, 2010 The Board of Public Safety met in the Executive Session on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 8:20 a.m. The meeting was held in the Mayor's Conference Room, 14`h Floor, County City Building, South Bend, Indiana, for the purposes specified in I.C. 5- 14- 1.5 -6.1 (b) (2) (B) and (b) (6) (A). President Juanita Dempsey, and Board Members Patrick D. Cottrell, Bruce BonDurant, Laura Vasquez and Eddie Miller were present. Also present were Police Chief Darryl Boykins, Fire Chief Howard Buchanon, and Board Attorney Thomas Bodnar. Board members did not discuss any subject matter other than the subject matter as specified in the Public Notice. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
