REGULAR MEETING MAY 24, 2010 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Whereas, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, is especially <br />proud to recognize that the John Adams High School Mock Trial Team has won the <br />Indiana High School Mock Trial State Championships in 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 2000- <br />2001, 2001-2002, 2002-2003, 2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, 2007- <br />2008, 2008-2009, 2009-2010; and <br /> <br />Whereas, the Common Council would especially like to publicly recognize each <br /> <br />of the members of the 2009-2010 John Adams High School Mock Trial Teamcalled <br />“Mark it Zero” under the direction of Judith Overmyer, the teacher at John Adams who <br />oversees this outstanding program, Coaches Erin Linder, John Scanlan and Lucas <br />th <br />Burkett; for representing the State of Indiana at the 27 National High School Mock <br />Trial Championship held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania May 6-9, 2010; and thanks each <br />of these talented “Team Indiana” Adams students: <br /> <br />Geeoffrey Burdell Peter Doyle Elena Jensen <br /> Toby Stoner <br /> <br />Matt Caponigro Czesia Eid David Kern <br /> <br />Now, Therefore, be it resolved, by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br /> <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, the <br />Common Council hereby congratulates each and every member of the 2009-2010 John <br />, <br />Adams High School Mock Trial Team their program’s organizer and sponsor, Judith <br />Overmyer, and coaches Lucas Burkett, Erin Linder, and John Scanlan for winning the <br />th <br />2009-2010 Indiana High School Mock Trial Championship, making this the 10 <br />consecutive championship won by the Eagles teams. <br /> <br />Section II. The South Bend Common Council believes that the hard-work, <br />discipline, and dedication of each of these especially dedicated and talented students to be <br />excellent role models for all students throughout our state; and each team member has <br />brought the highest of honors to themselves, their family and friends, John Adams High <br />School, the South Bend Community School Corporation, and all of the residents of the <br />City of South Bend, Indiana. The Council hopes that the Adams Eagles will be <br />representing the State of Indiana in next year’s national competition in Phoenix, Arizona. <br /> <br />Section III. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its <br />adoption by the Council and approval by the Mayor. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />st <br />s/Derek D. Luecke, Mayor of South Bend <br /> <br />Councilmember Tom LaFountain, 1224 Longfellow, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its entirety, offering his comments and <br />presenting it to the members of the team. <br /> <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br /> <br />Gary Kern, a parent of one of the students on the team spoke in favor of this Resolution. <br />He stated that this team is made up of very talented, very nice people.
