<br />VIII.Comments by Maintenance Superintendent <br /> <br />1. Mr. Mike Dyszkiewicz informed the Board that the grant will fund eleven employees that <br />are badly needed due to the budget cuts this year. <br />2. The Street Department is working with us to pave several lots. These include the Charles <br />Black Center, Erskine clubhouse lot, and the service roads at the Zoo. <br />3. Recycling bins are being placed in various locations and Centers. These will be for public <br />as well as employee use. <br />4. Park clean up has started. There has been lots of graffiti found on structures and it is being <br />removed. <br /> <br /> <br />IX.Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> <br />1. Mr. Derosa reported that last Saturday was the final Winter Day at the Zoo. 185 patrons <br />toured the zoo. <br />2. Wal-Mart has donated $1,000 to the Zoo Society. This also included volunteer work. <br />3. The Zoo has joined a program through the AZA to receive discounts from Pfizer Drug <br />Company for veterinary drugs. <br />4. The Zoo will open April 3. They are training employees and the train has been inspected <br />and is read to go. <br />5. The Zoo is partnering with Prevent Child Abuse of St. Joseph County. A flower bed will <br />have pin wheels in it through April. April 23 will be their event day. <br />6. The Road Crew has retiled the floor of the gift shop. <br /> <br /> <br />X.Comments by the Recreation Director <br />1. Ms. O’Connor thanked Mr. Moyers for doing the work for the grant application. <br />Recreation will receive 14 employees from the grant for the centers and playgrounds. <br />2. River City Basketball League ends this week and tournament play starts this weekend. <br />3. An AAU Super Regional tournament for 10, 11, and 12 year old girls will be hosted by the <br />Park Department this weekend. <br />4. The Indiana Parks and Recreation Association will hold its Northern District meeting will <br />be held here on Wednesday. Ms. Pembrooke will be the main speaker. <br />5. The Daddy-Daughter Dance was held last month and had 968 participants. <br />6. The Mom-Son Dance will be held March 23 at the Palais Royale. <br />7. The Camp Fair was held at Century Center this year. Sixty-five vendors and over a <br />thousand attendees were there. She thanked Century Center for donating the space for <br />the fair. <br />8. Camp Awareness registration was held last week and five of the nine weeks were filled. <br />9. Kid’s World registration has registered 38 of 78 spaces. She felt parents are waiting later <br />to register. <br />10. A group of volunteers from the University of Wisconsin will be stopping on their way to <br />Washington, DC to work at Rum Village on March 27. <br /> - - 4 - - <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
