South Bend Central Development Area <br /> <br />(2) continued… <br /> <br />As the Commission looks to make <br />infrastructure and other improvements <br />related to the East Bank Master Plan, having <br />this property under city control would be <br />helpful, allowing flexibility in planning. <br />Presently, there is a paved lot at the north end <br />of the site. When the Troegger building was <br />demolished, that portion of the site was <br />surfaced with gravel and has been used for <br />parking. <br /> <br />Mr. Schalliol noted that following approval <br />by the Commission, the amendment must be <br />approved by the Area Plan Commission, the <br />Common Council and return to the <br />Redevelopment Commission for a <br />confirming resolution and public hearing. <br /> <br />Mr. Downes asked who owns the parking <br />north of the Emporium Restaurant. Mr. <br />Schalliol responded that the Emporium owns <br />the portion immediately north of its building. <br />The City of South Bend owns the adjacent <br />stretch of parking to the north which is also <br />used by Emporium customers. <br /> <br />Ms. Jones asked if staff will provide not only <br />the cost of acquisition, but the cost of any <br />improvements that will need to be made to <br />the property in the near term. Mr. Schalliol <br />responded that staff will provide that <br />information at the time of the public hearing. <br /> <br />Ms. Jones asked whether this lot will provide <br />the city with sufficient temporary surface <br />parking, and ultimately the flexibility for a <br /> 7 <br /> <br />
