572 MEETING -- NOVEMBER 182 1940 ELECTRIC DEPARTMENT: It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the recommend tion of Mr. Qualls, Electrical Superintendent, with respect to the petition for a light at the intersection of Dubail Ave., and Taylor St. be accepted. The report reads in part as follows: "I can see no reason for a light at Dubail and Taylor St. that cannot be found at any street intersection that is not olluminated. Taylor St. is paved and Dubs=il is not paved and is quite rough, so I do not see a. traffic hazard. The block north of Dubail St. has treet on both sides of Taylor St. and in the full foliage the light at Indiana and Taylor Sts., is undoubtedly obscured. At this time the foliage is removed, which will permit this light to shine through. I do not recommend the additional light at this time." It was moved, seconded and unanimously carried that the recommendation of Mr. Quall with respect to the petition for a light in the alley on Cleveland Ave., between Califor- nia Ave., and Van Buren St. be accepted. His recommendation reads in part, as follows: "Of course, it is a long block between Van Buren St., and California Ave., and thee,interference is very heavy. Even with the foliage off,the trees still interfer with the illumination on the street from the lights at the intersection. Natuarlly, the middle of the block is dark, but the same .holds true on Blaine, Allen, Sherman and all the other streets in this section. If we put alight on Cleveland at the alley, these other streets will also want a light in similar locations. I appreciate the fact that it is dark, but until we can put a light at street intersections thruout the City, where it is also dark, I cannot find myself favoring the location of lights at alleys in favored sections that have lights at every street intersection, especially when the street could be better illuminated with existing facilities by trimming the trees. I am sure the balance of the street light appropriation can be used to better advantage by placing lights at street intersections that have no lights at this time. Most of the streets have lights every two blocks." STREET DEPARTMENT: Mr. Tony Zmudzinski, Street Commissioner was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. Mr. Zmudzinski turned over to the Board $1.10 for the sale of junk, and 07.00 for use of the grader for 3-1/2 hrs. on the parking lot at the Edwards Iron Works.
