Mr. IlilcNabb submitted his financial report for the first half of July, <br />1939 showing receipts in the total amount of $354.15; $210. being for perpetual care" <br />and 9144.15 being for regular stare. <br />Excavation Bond in favor of Harry H. Verkler with The Fidelity and Deposit Company <br />of Baltimore, Md. as surety was approved. <br />Contractor's bond of Clarence I. Lee with Hartford Accident & Indemnity Companyas <br />surety was approved. <br />/A committee consisting of John Buczkowski, Leon Kowalski, Eugene Pajakowski and— <br />Walter Mucha, representing the Polish Central Civic Committee, were present and dis- <br />cussed with the Board the unsatisfactory condition which results after each rain at the <br />viaduct at Western and Walnut Streets. They w6re informed that a new sewer is being <br />planned, which will overcome this hazard. <br />The matter of repairing sidewalks on the west side of the city was also discussed <br />and the men were informed that the Board had already taken this under consideration by <br />• <br />Improvement Resolution No. 2502. <br />The matter of boulevard lights on Western Avenue was discussed briefly. The fol- <br />lowing resolution was presented to the Board: <br />"A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT IN BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 1940 FOR BOULEVARD LIGHTS ON <br />WESTERN AVE14UE <br />"Be it resolved by the Polish Central Civic Committee, that it forward this <br />resolution passed at a special meeting of the Improvement Committee to the <br />Board ofVlorks of South Bend, Indiana. <br />111,11h.ereas, the citizens of the West Side have asked previous City Administra- <br />tions to provide lights on Western Avenue and were always refused due to <br />lack of funds. <br />11111hereas, Budget time is here, the Polish Central Civic Committee gives ample <br />time to provide in the Budget for the year 1940 funds for boulevard lights <br />on Western Avenue. <br />POLISH CENTRAL CIVIC COMMITTEE <br />By Eugene Pa j akowski ( s i ,ned ) <br />Secretary <br />• This matter was referred to Mr. Qualls for investigation and report. <br />STREET DEPARTMENT: Pair. Mr. Zmudzinski was authorized to purchase a power mower and 500 feet o. <br />2rr wire cable and one pair of boots for the use of the sewer department. <br />The Board authorized the rental of a lathe from the South Bend Lathe Works for the <br />use of the Street Department at an initial payment of t19.00 and the balance of the <br />rental to be 210.44 per month. If, and when, 18 consecutive monthly rentals of $10.44 <br />each are paid, title will pass to the City of South Bend. <br />there being no remons ra 'ectors, to said resolution, the same is now adopted <br />without amendment.
