PrcNabb was present and matters pertaining to his department were discussed. Mr. IlilcNabb submitted his financial report for the first half of July, 1939 showing receipts in the total amount of $354.15; $210. being for perpetual care" and 9144.15 being for regular stare. Excavation Bond in favor of Harry H. Verkler with The Fidelity and Deposit Company of Baltimore, Md. as surety was approved. Contractor's bond of Clarence I. Lee with Hartford Accident & Indemnity Companyas surety was approved. /A committee consisting of John Buczkowski, Leon Kowalski, Eugene Pajakowski and— Walter Mucha, representing the Polish Central Civic Committee, were present and dis- cussed with the Board the unsatisfactory condition which results after each rain at the viaduct at Western and Walnut Streets. They w6re informed that a new sewer is being planned, which will overcome this hazard. The matter of repairing sidewalks on the west side of the city was also discussed and the men were informed that the Board had already taken this under consideration by • Improvement Resolution No. 2502. The matter of boulevard lights on Western Avenue was discussed briefly. The fol- lowing resolution was presented to the Board: "A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT IN BUDGET FOR THE YEAR 1940 FOR BOULEVARD LIGHTS ON WESTERN AVE14UE "Be it resolved by the Polish Central Civic Committee, that it forward this resolution passed at a special meeting of the Improvement Committee to the Board ofVlorks of South Bend, Indiana. 111,11h.ereas, the citizens of the West Side have asked previous City Administra- tions to provide lights on Western Avenue and were always refused due to lack of funds. 11111hereas, Budget time is here, the Polish Central Civic Committee gives ample time to provide in the Budget for the year 1940 funds for boulevard lights on Western Avenue. Zmudzinski was present and matters pertaining to his departmen were discussed. Mr. Zmudzinski was authorized to purchase a power mower and 500 feet o. 2rr wire cable and one pair of boots for the use of the sewer department. The Board authorized the rental of a lathe from the South Bend Lathe Works for the use of the Street Department at an initial payment of t19.00 and the balance of the rental to be 210.44 per month. If, and when, 18 consecutive monthly rentals of $10.44 each are paid, title will pass to the City of South Bend. there being no remons ra 'ectors, to said resolution, the same is now adopted without amendment. The City Attorney was authorized to prepare an -'ordinance changing the name of 19th Street to Ellsworth Place from Wilson Avenue to Colfax Avenue in accordance with the i recommendation of the Council Committee on Streets, Alleys Znd Bridges..
