177 <br />Its. Weer reported on the situation on 28th and 29th Streets, from Pleasant Street <br />to the St. Joseph River, where residents were dumping rubbish in gravel pits. The <br />matter was referred to the Police Department. <br />A communication from N. E. May was received calling attention to alley east of <br />Meade Street between Humbolt and Calhoun Streets. Mr. Weer reported that under W.P.A. <br />work this alley will be taken care of when Humbolt Street is cut through. <br />A letter addressed to the Common Council of South Bend by Mr. John Buczkowski of <br />the Central Civic Committee, which had previously been taken up by -the Board, was <br />ordered placed on file. <br />Mr. Longenecker reported the activities in his Department and, there being nothing <br />of importance, no action was taken. <br />r <br />Mr. Qualls.submitted outline of the lighting of Michigan Street and North Shore <br />Drive to Michigan= Central viaduct, recoimending the installation of five 1000 lumen - <br />lamps, concrete ports, octagon tops, underground surface and the elimination of -;two <br />existing lights in this section - one a 1000 lumen and one a 4000 lumen, leaving a <br />balance under present cost of 078.00 per year. The Board approved the plan and <br />instructed Mr. Qualls to make the necessary arrangements. <br />This being the date set for hearing of Vacation Resolution #2485, same being <br />vacation of alley west of Olive Street from Longley Avenue to the alley north of Longley <br />Avenue, there being no objectors and no objections having been filed and the Board <br />being advised of this fact approved Vacation Resolution and referred same to the <br />Engineering Department for the purpose of making up final estimate of benefits and <br />damages. <br />The meeting adjourned at 12:00 noon. <br />0 <br />Board of Public Works <br />ATTEST: Clerk <br />i <br />• <br />
