I am Triting you this letter as a citizen of the City bf South Bend anal respect-
fully calling your attention to that part of Western Avenue which is near the western
limit of said City, where the ^venue is wide, and you heve numerous light posts erected
in the center of said avenue.
I also note that at the present time that the western ligr:t pole, and also the
as tern light -pole have a red light on the top of same, but never the less, ? believe
bat these constitute a defect in said Avenue, and that: a driver of an automobile driv
ng as they do under various weather conri.tions, is very liable to run into and against
ne of those posts, an(q, thereby suffer severe personal injuries- • or possibly loss of
if e .
It is probable, ho,srever, that any person who is familiar with the location and
the -costs -rill run into same, but nerticul<arly this year, an(' on account of the World's
7,pir tra ffic, I believe that there is very lirble to be a very serious accident occur,
vrrl. un, er t}le present circum--tances, i believe that the City mig'lt be held liable, but
repar("less of the _liability, the humenitarurn e spe ct of it sbnuT_d be sufficiently con-
sidered to cruse the city to remove these posts.
I an -riting this letter, nit as a creticism of the city, nor for any reason
'- Pt i t is of nersonalinterest to re, but rather by <<ay of a. fri.endlr suggestion, respec
.u11Y inviting your at,1ention to this situation. !
