Saturdays that can be used anywhere in the City but on ND game days usually in that area. <br /> Crime stats from 2013 to 2014 are down 11% citywide. They discussed the Group Violence <br /> Intervention that seems to be working. This is where they let violent offenders know that they <br /> are being watched. All police agencies, prosecutors office attend the meetings and decide <br /> where the best area to put officers. Need the community to partner up, they are a big help and <br /> a great resource. <br /> Tim Sexton asked what time of day the robberies have been occurring? The response was <br /> 12:OOam to 4:OOam, usually multiple offenders, usually a weapon involved. Have told the <br /> students to ride instead of walk if possible and walk in groups. <br /> Lauren Vidal —ND —They have student patrol on campus, they have safety videos going out to <br /> students, working with Code Enforcement, emails going out about safety to on and off campus <br /> students. Could see some improvement with the tri-campus communications, a link to pull up <br /> crime reports on their phones so they can be aware of any crime in the area. Also letting <br /> students they need to take some responsibility for themselves. <br /> St. Joe County Sheriff Mike Grzegorek spoke of how all of these meetings are a big help. They <br /> are trying to teach students how not to be a victim. How it is to live in an urban area and be <br /> safe. A lot of students come from other states and have never lived in an urban setting and <br /> need to be educated. He said the all the police departments are working better than ever <br /> together. Even sharing with the Michigan police with the state line being so close. The 911 call <br /> center will be a big help by connecting St. Joe, South Bend and Mishawaka Police Depts. <br /> McKenna Schuster from St. Mary's College inquired about the student summits that ND holds. <br /> She was informed each school has their own and to contact the police department to help her <br /> set one up. <br /> Dr. Ferlic mentioned about 10 students being held up by gun point from Oct. 13 to now. That it <br /> is up to us to provide a safe environment for the students. Not just teaching the students on <br /> how not to be victims but wants safer streets. <br /> Bob Hammer- SBPD we are not able to prevent all the violence. Not blaming the students just <br /> trying to make them aware of their surroundings. <br /> McKenna — have reports of some cab drivers not wanting to drive everyone to their college such <br /> as St. Mary's from the Linebacker lounge. Not wanting to make the longer trip so they don't <br /> miss as many fares. <br /> Dave G.-St. Mary's college —they have been forwarding complaints on cabs to Tasha Outlaw in <br /> the City's legal dept. Students are feeling discouraged to be calling cabs. Councilman Gavin <br /> Ferlic said that he would be looking into the city ordinance on taxi cabs. <br /> Robert — Holy Cross College — Holy Cross students are complaining that alerts are not being <br /> sent out in a timely manner about any incidents happening at ND or St. Mary's college. <br /> Dr. Ferlic listed four points that are needed. 1.
