E <br />July 1, 1957 <br />A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, July 1, 1957 at 10:00 A.M. (DST). All <br />members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. W. Cole & Son.. <br />;!Contract Supplement No. 1 (Change Order No. 1) of Indiana Avenue Contract No. 2 under 1956 General Street <br />!'Improvement Program is hereby approved by the Board. <br />Upon approval and recommendation of the Building and Traffic Engieering Departments, the request of the I. <br />and M. Electric Company to install 2 signs, one on either side of their garage entrance at 401 East LaSalle' <br />Street, is now approved by the Board this lst day of July, 1957. <br />Contractor's bonds were approved for Harry Stanifer, Herron Murray, Gervase S. Thompson, H. G. Christman <br />Construction Company, Edward Burton, Hilton Construction Company, Wendell Newman, and Carl H. McClellan. <br />Bond is the amount of $1,000.00 is approved for any and all work completed in connection with the Streets <br />in the City of South Bend for the Indiana Bell Telephone Company. <br />A petition was received from several property owners on Elwood Avenue asking for the improvement of Elwood <br />Avenue from Johnson Street to Olive Street by the construction of Stop sign and posted speed sign. Petition <br />referred to Traffic Engineering Department for investigation and report. <br />Ham the Wrecker submitted an application of permit to occupy 4 feet of Michigan Street along the front of <br />118 N. Michigan Street from date to July 25, 1957 during the wrecking of building for South Bend Parking <br />Company. Approved by the Board. <br />Traffic signs were installed at the following locations: <br />Yield Right of Way signs on Brookton, both sides, at Alpine Street <br />Stop Signs on Oak Ridge, both sides, at Oak Park Drive <br />A petition was received from several property owners and residents in the immediate vicinity of St. Joseph <br />Hospital requesting the City of South Bend of order St. Joseph Hospital, located at 401 N. Notre Dame Ave. <br />to make some adjustments in the firing of their furnace to control the smell of coal gas, soot, and corrod- <br />ing elements. Petition referred to City Engineering for investigation. <br />At the June 24, 1957 regular meeting of the Council the following matter was referred to the Board for actin <br />Councilman Hahn made a motion, seconded by Councilman Muszynski, that an ivestigation be made of the Gafill', <br />Okl Company Station at the corner of South Bend Avenue and St. Louis Blvd. Councilman Hahn stated that the <br />corner is a disgrace, and the matter referred to various departments for investigation and report. Also, <br />Couniilman Muszynski, Lade a motion that the Board of Public Works and Safety instruct the Police Depart- <br />ment to enforce the Resolution which the Council adopted relative to intra-city truck traffic on Olive <br />Street. Councilman Carr seconded themotion. Matter taken under advisement. <br />
