560 Verner L. Lane, Building Commissioner, reports to the Board that the 2 vehicles purchased by the Building Department have been thoroughly examined and found to meet the required specifications in accordance with the bid. Lane also reports that the Parking Lot operator on Main and Jefferson have put the necessary car stops as required by the City of South Bend for safety of the public. The Board now authorizes Mr. Lane to request the owner of the property at 426 South Chaping Street to appe at a hearing on Monday, March 41 1957 at 10:00 A.M. (CST) with reference to a condemmation order. Mr. Richey Whitesell, Bendix Corporation, appeared before the Board with reference to the progress on which said corporation has made in regards to the installation of sound control equipment at Bendix. Mr. Whitesel2 reports that the corporation now has the completed contract signed and actual construction of the equipment; • is underway and should be in operation and completed by July 1, 1957. !The Bids received for the Dog Pound Department were rejected by the Board and returned to the respective bidders, unopend. !The Clerk of the Board is hereby authorized to advertise for a vehicle for the Dog Pound Department and also for the Parking Meter Division. i WARRANTY DEED ;This indenture witnesseth that Place and Company, Inc., an Indiana Corporation, of St. Joseph County in theJ . ;State of Indiana conveys and warrants to the City of South Bend, Indiana, a Municipal Corporation, of St. Joseph County in the State of Indiana for and in consideration of One Dollar ($1.00) and other valuable con sideration, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, the following Real Estate in St. Joseph County in the State of Indiana, to wit: . VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2845, 1957 This being the date set, hearing was held on the assessment roll showing the award of damages and the assess- ment of benefits in the matter of the vacation of a PORTION OF THE NORTH AND SOUTH ALLEY LYING BETWEEN CHAPIN AND PINE STREET AND DESCRIBED AS FOLLOWS: BEGINNING AT THE NW CORNER OF LOT 14, ERASTUS PERKINS' 2nd SUB -DIVISION OF PART OF BANK OUT LOT 76, SOUTH BEND INDIANA; THENCE SOUTH ALONG THE EAST LINE OF THE FIRST ALLEY WEST OF CHAPIN STREET 66.04 FEET TO THE NORTHERLY LINE OF THE NEW YORK CENTRAL ' RAILRAOD RIGHT-OF-WAY: THENCE WESTERLY 9.9 FEET TO THE WEST LINE OF THE NORTH AND • SOUTH ALLEY ; THENCE NORTH ALONG THE WEST LINE OF SAID ALLEY 66.04 FEET, MORE OR LESS TO A POINT WEST OF THE NW CORNER OF SAID LOT 14; THENCE EAST 9.9 FEET TO PLACE OF BE - ginning, under Vacation Resolution No. 2845, 1957. The Clerk of the Board submitted proofs of publication of notices and same were found sufficient, and the Board! ;therefore finds that the alley has been benefited and damaged in the amounts shown on said roll. The Board.; therefore decides to take final action on said assessment roll and declares same in all things ratified, j confirmed, and approved without modification and the proceedings closed , and the alley vacated upon receipt of the amount of benefit assessments from the various property owners so benefited and all proceedings had With reference to said vacation are hereby sustained. Mr. Anderson and Nicholis Chollis, Attorney for Northern Indiana Transit Company, Inc. appeared at a hear- iing before the Board of Public Works & Safety with reference to change of bus routes in the City of South ;Bend, Indiana. Also, a group of remonstrators from the Belleville are appeared in regards to a possible 'change of routing in the extremer.�west end of Ford Street in Belleville district. After due consideration .the following Amendment$ to proposed route was adopted: 'Western Avenue: The Western Avenue route, as amended, is to be as follows: Leaving Court House South on Main Street to'j ';Western Avenue, West to Liberty Drive, South to Ford Street, West to Falcon Street, South to Sample Street, West to Ford Street, North and east to Gladstone Street, North to Western Avenue, east to Lafayette Street, ,north to Jefferson and East to the Post Office. j ;There being no further bu mess to come before the Board, the meeting was a ned atZ1O-A.
