55 <br />Mr. Walter White, 1418 North Adams Street appeared before the Board with reference to the trash burni <br />disturbance in his immediate residential area. The Clerk of the Board is hereby ordered to contact the Fi <br />Department and check to see if there is a possibility of adopting an Ordinance with reference to the contr <br />of burning trash. The proposal is then to be submitted to the Board for further investigation and report. <br />The Board acknowledged receipt .of a post card with reference to the sidewalk on Angela Boulevard from <br />Edward M. Pauwels, 925 Diamond Avenue, South Bend, Indiana. <br />The Board hereby approves the plans for the installation of a canopy on the Colfax Theatre and also <br />;the Gold Star Bakery, Western Avenue and said plans are now referred to the Building Commissioner. Per - <br />!mission will be granted for this installation subject to the approval of the Building Commissioner. <br />A petition was submitted to the Board with reference to the complaint of through trucks driving on <br />Washington Avenue West. The Clerk of the Board is directed to notify Captain Hazinski to keep watch on sa <br />street. <br />I A letter was submitted to the Board from Floyd R.Searer with reference to the purchasing fromthe City <br />I <br />all of that portion of Lot 57 in Jefferson Heights Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana which lies <br />I!south of the south line of Colfax Avenue. This represents a strip of land 39 to 40 feet wide at the south- <br />�east corner of Colfax Avenue and Ironwood Drive. Matter continued until November, 1956. <br />Permission is granted to Green Arrow Parking Company to change their rate on their Parking Lot #17, <br />located at 121 North Main Street from 25� each hour or less to 35� for the first hour and 10� for each addi <br />tional hour. Also, their request for perission to operate a parking lot at 129 West Jefferson Street is <br />hereby granted. <br />Contractor's bonds were approved for Northern Indiana Public Service Company, Ignatius Golichowski, a <br />Don M. Jaskowiak. <br />A petition was submitted to the Board from residents in the vicinity of McKinley Avenue remonstrating <br />against the placing of any additional "Stop Signs or traffic lights on that street. Petition referred to <br />the Traffic Engineer for further investigation and report. <br />Stop Signs were installed on 31st Street, both sides, at Hasting Street. <br />The Board now proceeds with the -,opening of the Bids on Jefferson Street. Proof of publication in the <br />South Bend Tribune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in the Record with an affidavit signed <br />by W. DeCanio was submitted to the Board and found sufficient. The bids read as follows: <br />RIETH RILEY CONSTRUCTION COMPANY <br />P. 0. Box 775 <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />A non -collusion affidavit and a bidder's:: <br />bond in the amount of $5500.00 accompanied <br />the bid. <br />Total bid price with Alternate "A" . . . . . $98,371.40 <br />Total bid price with Alternate "B" $1059046.40 <br />REED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY A non -collusion affidavit and a bidder's <br />2022 North Main Street bond in the amount of 5116 of the bid accom- <br />Mishawaka, Indiana panied the bid. <br />Total bid price with Alternate "A" . $90,431.50 <br />Total bid price with Alternate "B" . . . . $99,776.50 <br />The bids will be taken under advisement by the Board and also referred to the Engineer for investigati <br />and report. <br />Also bids for the Oakcrest Drive - Sylvan Glen Local Sewer were opened. Proof of publication in the <br />outh Bend Tribune with an affidavit signed by C. G. Livengood and in the Record with an affidavit signed <br />y W. DeCanio was submitted to the Board and found sufficient. The single bid received reads as follows: <br />REED CONSTRUCTION COMPANY A non -collusion affidavit and a certified <br />2022 North Main Street check in the amount of $715.00 accompanied <br />Mishawaka, Indiana the bid. <br />Total bid price, Extension of Items . . . $14,285.25 <br />The bid is hereby referred to the Engineer for tabulation and report. <br />IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION NO. 2847 <br />ENTRY OF PETITION PRESENTED <br />The Board of Public Works and Safety hereby received and placed on file the Petition of Frank G. Schmi <br />d 7 others for the improvement of the alley between St. Joseph Street and Foster Street from St. Vincent <br />reet to the lst East-West alley South of Napoleon Street by constructing a Class "C" pavement, types 1 to <br />0 <br />
