503 i July 30, 1956 i A regular meeting of the Board of Public Works was held on Monday, July 30, 1956 at 10:00 A.M. All (;members were present. Minutes of the previous regular meeting were read and approved. Equipment Company 8.00 j Sargent & Sowell Inc. 70.50 West Side Hardware 2.25 3 West Side Hardware 10.31 i IThe Misses Joyce Mamula and Jean McCracken appeared before the Board on behalf of the Debs of Riley, High School and were given permission for the use of a city thoroughfare, specifically on Altgeld Street be-* �tween Miami and Dale.Streets from 7:00 to 10..00 P.M. on the 29th day of August, 1956 for a Street Dance. Th. !Street Department was notified and the Clerk of the Board was directed to notify the Traffic Engineer. Mr. Jacob Mitchelen appeared before the Board requesting permission to move a house from 2327 South' Michigan to 3501 South Michigan. Four properties' frontages are concerned. Mr. Lane, Building Commissioner, was directed to notify the affected property owners and the matter would then be brought before the Board at the August 6th meeting of the Board. i An excavation bond for Nelda R. Keller d/b/a Ralph Keller was approved and accepted. i A contract between the City of South Bend, Indiana and Clyde E. Williams & Associates for the im- provement of the west half of North Shore Drive at Angela was approved. I A Certificate of Insurance for the Rieth-Riley Construction Company was examined and ordered filed.;! i The dedication of Chalfant Street between Jacob Street and Twyckenham Drive for street purposes was l accepted by the Board and the Dedication ordered recorded. Mr. Muia appeared beforeBoard askingpermission to build a pedestrian walk around the building on the northeast corner of Michigan and Sample Streets. Permission was granted for the pedestrian walk sub- ject to a plan being set up by the Traffic Engineer. Numerous complaints have been registered with the Board on the weeds growing over the walks in Mag �Igies Court. The Clerk of the Board was directed to send a, -letter to William E. Voor; 620 Associates Bldg. i The deed for the following property was ordered recorded: Lot Numbered 250 as shown on the record fled plat of the Ridgedale 5th Addition to the City of South Bend, Indiana. Numerous complaints have been registered with the Board that the sidewalks surrounding the City ;;Cemetery are in need of repairs. Clerk of the Board was ordered to investigate and take necessary action. The Board received a directive from the City Council concerning the condition surrounding Pierre Nevarre Park. The City Engineer was directed to make a drawing of the area showing the county and city limits. 1 4 Mrs. Sosnoski requested permission to have the 100, 200, and 300 blocks of 34th Street closed from • "6 to 12 P.M. on Saturday, August 11, 1956 for a Street party. Permission granted. I. n i J; Mr. Boehm of the Recreation Department of the Park Department requested permission to close River- iside Drive between Michigan and Lafayette Streets on the evening of August 9, 1956 for a street dance. Per - emission granted subject to notifying the Police and Traffic Departments. The Board read a letter from the City Council regarding the condition of the blocking of the Sampler ;Street -Olive Street crossing for long periods. The City Engineer directed to contact all railroad companies involved and set a date for a meeting and to give this date to the President of the Council along with Trans- I!portation Committee of the Council. I The contracts for the Sibley Street improvement Resolution No. 2836 were signed. I! Improvement Resolution No. 2834 The Estimate of Cost for construction of a local combined sewer on Meade Street from Elwood Avenue !to Bulla Street was approved and ordered filed. Also, the Notice of Property Owners was filed and advertised. I Improvement Resolution No. 2843 Entry of Petition Presented I' i The Board of Public Works and Safety hereby received and placed on file the Petition of Daryl E. La - ;caster and 12 others for the improvement of Oakcrest Drive from 35th Street to Sylvan Glen & Sylvan Glen • !;from Oakcrest Drive to McKinley Avenue by constructing a local combined sewer with all appurtenances. j' 1i s ii i
