450 <br />1' At the regular meeting of the Council, the followingmatter was referred to the <br />,!Board of Public Works & Safety for appropriate disposal or for specific action as indicated: <br />A motion was made by Councilman Tellson, seconded by Councilman Glass, that <br />the Board of Public Works have an investigation made of heavy trucks using <br />West Ewing Avenue which is a Boulevard; Councilman Erler amended the motion <br />to include the speeding of trucks and to include Altgeld Street in the in- <br />vestigation, motion seconded by Councilman Glass. Motion carried. Council <br />would like a report on this investigation by their next meeting, March lap 1956. <br />Councilman Christman asked that the Board of Public Works & Safety also include <br />in their investigastion, the bad congestion of traffics► and the condition of <br />the South Shore railroad tracks at the intersection of LaSalle Avenue and Lin - <br />coin Way West, and at LaSalle and Main Street. He suggested that some sort of <br />an island or divider would help the congestion at LaSalle and Lincoln Way West. <br />Both matters were taken under advisement by the Board of Public Works & Safety and <br />the report will be given next Monday, March 12, 1956. <br />A petition was received asking for the vacation of the north -..and south alley be- <br />tween Lots 97 and 98 in part of Lincoln Manor Addition; from the south right of way line;, <br />of Bonds avenue south to the north line of the east and west alley at the rear of said Lots <br />No. 97 and 98 all in the city of South Bend, Indiana and was referred to the City Plan Com- <br />mission for their investigation and recommendation. <br />1- <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2828 <br />This being the date set hearing was held on the resolution heretofore adopted b <br />the Board of Public Works and Safety for the vacationof Johnson Street from the north line. <br />of Washington Avenue to the South line of Orange Street, under Resolution No. 2828. The <br />'Clerk of the Board having shown sufficient proofs of publicstion and no remonstrators ha-_ <br />1,'ving appeared and no written remonstrances having been filed with the Clerk, it was moved," <br />:seconded and unanimously carried that the said resolution be finall adopted and the said <br />;street be vacated, providing that the South Shore Railroad warning gates on the south side <br />of Orange Street at :Johnson Street may be removed; the gates on the north side of Orange <br />zStreet at Johnson to remain; that South Shore warning gates and lights should be install- <br />,ed at the Brookfield -Orange intersection. The Engineering Department is directed to pre — <br />,pare an assessment roll covering the assessment of benefits and the award of damages to <br />;the surrounding properties. <br />VACATION RESOLUTION NO. 2831 <br />ENTRY OF PETITION PRESENTED <br />The Board of Public Works & Safety hereby received and placed on file the Petition <br />1;of Dean Barnes and 21 others for the improvement of 29th Street from the South line of <br />;;Pleasant Street to the North line of Northside Blvd. by constructing a Class "C" Pavement! <br />land cement concrete curbs. <br />PETITION REFERRED TO ENGINEER <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2831 <br />The petition of Dean Barnes and 21 others for the improvement of 29th Street from' <br />;;the south line of Pleasant Street to the North line of Northside Boulevard by constructing <br />a Class 11C" pavement (Types 1 to 4 inclusive) and cement concrete curbs is referred to the' <br />iCity Engineer, for investigation and recommendation at the next regualr meeting of the Board. <br />R.
